Looks like the police and other govt officials in King, NC don't have enough to do. Rather than enacting restrictions that make the situation worse rather than better, maybe they should spend their spare time reading the Constitution?

Police Chief: King Remains Under State Of Emergency Until Monday

KING, N.C. -- Authorities lifted curfew and alcohol restrictions in King on Sunday, but said a state of emergency declaration remained in effect until Monday.

Authorities said the state of emergency declaration would continue until Monday 9 a.m., barring any unforeseen circumstances or severe changes.

Effective Sunday afternoon, alcohol restrictions and a curfew were lifted. All other remaining restrictions would continue until Monday, said Paula May, King police chief.

Other restrictions included a ban on the sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises.

Also on Sunday, the emergency shelter established by the American Red Cross at West Stokes High School was closed.

"We appreciate the support and cooperation of everyone with our efforts to keep the citizens of King safe," May said.

The state of emergency was declared Friday due to severe weather.

You have to wonder where these local police think they get the authority to strip away citizens' Constitutionally-guaranteed rights.

What's next? Will the cops say, "Gee, since it's snowing pretty hard today, we're going to declare it's OK for the white people of King, NC to take any black person they can find, put him in chains, and force him to shovel their walk whenever needed, all for no pay and miserable housing. We know, there's a Constitutional amendment against that, too. But nobody yelped when we took away their 2nd amendment rights, so why should they change when we take away the 13th? What's the difference?"

The anti-gun-rights crowd would love to get "State of Emergency" established as a legitimate reason for banning guns.

This idea was started just after Hurricane Katrina, when police went house-to-house in New Orleans, seeking privately-owned guns and confiscating any they could find, sometimes by force. Sounds like the local heat in King, NC wants to get in on the act, albeit in a more minor way.

Historical note:

On March 9, 1933, the United States was placed under a State of Emergency by newly-elected President Franklin Roosevelt. That State of Emergency has never been cancelled, and remains in effect to this day. Many others have since been added on top of it. Most of them still remain in effect.

Many states - at least some - have been drawing into their constitution regulations which prohibit law enforcement from preventing the possession of, or forcing lawful citizens into giving up their weapons.

Yeah, that'll sure stop the legislators. You know, the ones who are already ignoring the U.S. Constitution's ban on the same thing.

Yup, pass more laws. That'll stop those lawbreakers in their tracks!

Liberals and corrupt government officials will always use any excuse to disarm honest lawabiding citizens as they are the biggest threat to government tyranny.
