Why is it that Europeans ended up conquering so much of the world? Or, as one of Diamond's New Guinean friends asks him, why do they have all the "cargo"? Despite all the contrary evidence from anthropology and human biology, many persist in attributing the differing political and economic successes of the world's peoples to biological, "racial" differences. Others appeal to cultural differences or to historical contingency. But Diamond sees the fundamental causes as environmental, resting ultimately on ecological differences between the continents. An extended argument for this, Guns, Germs and Steel is nothing less than a history of Homo sapiens on a scale of continents and millennia.
Diamond begins with a survey of human pre-history, covering the spread of humans around the world down to 11000 BC. He then introduces Polynesia as a "natural experiment", an illustration on a smaller scale of his overall thesis. In the Polynesian exploration and settlement of the Pacific, settlers from the one cultural and ethnic background ended up in vastly different environments, ranging from continental New Zealand, through volcanic islands of various sizes, to barren atolls and remote Easter Island. Hunter-gatherer societies eventuated on some islands — and sophisticated states and proto-empires on others.

By the end of high school, all young adults are instructed to understand and apply the scientific method to match data with hypotheses to explain the data. Most adults report they are able to do this under realistic conditions; that is, they have rational explanations for reality on a day-to-day basis, and especially for important issues. Daily, more adults are focusing their competent intellects upon our largest political and economic issues. Daily, more adults are constructing hypotheses of intentional destruction of our American rights, values, and economy as the only rational explanation of such gross malfeasance with US government and economic policies.

History mostly.

Lately I've been extremely interested in documentaries on economics and more specifically, on currency vs. money. The "Ascent of Money" is one I found very interesting.

I also enjoy documentaries on religious subjects. I am one that loathes organized religion (religion≠faith) but I enjoy historical documentaries on how the various religious sects have developed over history.

And of course, I enjoy some military documentaries, but I'm particular.

Operation Gladio
"Originally aired on BBC2 in 1992, ‘Operation Gladio’ reveals ‘Gladio’, the secret state-sponsored terror network operating in Europe.

This BBC series is about a secret army, operated by the CIA and MI6 through NATO, which killed hundreds of innocent Europeans and attempted to blame the deaths on Baader Meinhof, Red Brigades and other left wing groups. Known as ‘stay-behinds’ these armies were given access to military equipment which was supposed to be used for sabotage after a Soviet invasion. Instead it was used in massacres across mainland Europe as part of a CIA Strategy of Tension. Gladio killing sprees in Belgium and Italy were carried out for the purpose of frightening the national political classes into adopting U.S. policies."

Yes, I do that when watching/reading anything since I almost never watch any of the MSM (including FOX) talking heads any more. They're all working for large corporations and their messages are skewed.

The LaRouche video I linked to is the only one of his I have ever watched and had just stumbled across it when I did. However, being the history buff that I am, I found the documentary very interesting and, with the assistance of historical hindsight, quite accurate. There are a lot of lessons we can garner from the video. Especially the lesson regarding how economic chaos can lead to leaders like Hitler.

I've come to realize over the last several years that much of what we learned as children was a very simplistic overview of the events that lead to WWI and WWII. In no way am I saying that the regimes we fought against were innocent as they were as guilty as they come. But the leaders of those regimes would never have come to power if not for the greedy practices of the global banksters and their elitist accomplices.

What we're currently seeing develop in the ME is very similar in nature.

Oh, and thanks for the link. Yes, I've seen that video too and it is good, but as you stated, not as good as "OZ".

UNWRITTEN FUTURE

It's militarized and covert police action against the citizens again. From the left but the similar things happened at the democratic convention.

(2008) A documentary that looks into the events during the Republican National Convention in Saint Paul, MN.

Footage contains excessive use of force and questionable tactics used by police toward activists. It also includes interviews with citizens, asking them what they are fighting for.

This documentary is strictly for educational purposes only and should never be sold. The footage contains graphic state terrorism against its own people and some adult language.

The footage used in this documentary was shot mainly by independent, non-profit, and volunteer citizens that have risked much to bring you this uncensored look into the Republican National Convention. Thanks to all of you that fight for truth.

Why do societies fail? With lessons from the Norse of Iron Age Greenland, deforested Easter Island and present-day Montana, Jared Diamond talks about the signs that collapse is near, and how -- if we see it in time -- we can prevent it.

He proposed a checklist when a society started collapsing.
1. Natual Environment
2. Climate
3. Relationship with neighbor country.
4. Relationship with enemy
5. Political, enomomical, socical and culture factors

How far will a big corporation go to protect its brand? Swedish filmmaker Fredrik Gertten's experienced this recently. His previous film BANANAS!* (IDFA 2009) recounts the lawsuit that 12 Nicaraguan plantation workers brought against the fruit giant Dole Food Company. The film was selected for competition by the Los Angeles Film Festival. Nothing wrong so far, right? But then Gertten gets a strange message: the festival removes Bananas!* from competition. Then a scathing article appears in the Los Angeles Business Journal about the film, and Gertten subsequently receives a letter from Dole's attorney threatening him with legal action. What follows is an unparalleled thriller that has Gertten capturing the entire process - from Dole attacking the producers with a defamation lawsuit and bullying scaretactics, to media control and PR spin. This personal film reveals precisely how a multinational will stop at nothing to get its way - freedom of speech is at stake. As Dole's PR company puts it, "It is easier to cope with a bad conscience than a bad reputation

The programme includes interviews with a number of prominent scientists, including atheists Richard Dawkins and Peter Atkins and Anglican priest John Polkinghorne. It also includes an interview with Ellen Johnson, the president of American Atheists.Liddle begins the documentary by surveying common criticisms of religion, and particularly antireligious arguments based on the prevalence of religious violence. He argues that the “very stupid human craving for certainty and justification”, not religion, is to blame for this violence, and that atheism is becoming just as dogmatic as religion.
In order to support his thesis, Liddle presents numerous examples of actions and words by atheists which he argues are direct parallels of religious attitudes. He characterizes Atkins and Dawkins as “fundamentalist atheists” and “evangelists”.
In response to atheistic appeals to science as a superior method for understanding the world than religion, Liddle argues that science itself is akin to religion: “the problem for atheists is that science may not be as far away from religion as you might imagine”.
He describes Fermilab, a U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory focused on particle physics, as a “temple to science”, and characterizes Charles Darwin’s The Origin of Species as a “sacred text” for atheists.

After having watched Penis Size Insecurity By Men, it’s now time to move on to lesson two and have a look at womens insecurities: The Perfect Vagina.
Fronted by Lisa Rogers, this documentary focuses on the rise in vaginal cosmetic surgery, specifically labiaplasty. For the uninitiated, labiaplasty involves cutting off the inner labia so that they don’t ‘hang’ below the outer labia. Ouch! The labiaplasty business has skyrocketed over the past few years, and Lisa’s mission was to find out why so many women hate the appearance of their vulvas to the point that they’d willingly have pieces of them surgically removed.
Warning: May not be suitable for minors.

This World tells the inside story of the 2011 massacre in Norway, offering new insights into the life and mind of the perpetrator Anders Breivik, and exposing the hidden hatreds that inspired him. Through interviews with key players, including the Norwegian prime minister, survivors, the commander of the police response and the head of the Delta Force team that arrested Breivik, and including unique footage and unseen archive, the film pieces together, minute by minute, the course of the attacks and the response of the security services.

well done.
lots to think about and here. I'm not sure they really have understood how he got to the point where he was ready to do the horrible crime.

One thing that jumps out at me is the repeated comment " he's just like us." "he looks like a regular human being" they all where expecting a minority a Muslim, Reminds me of some of comments awhile back calling muslims terrorist nonhuman and subhuman. But this guys about as white middle class as you can get, And to some folk that's what human really is.

Breivik feels Muslims are animals and that's WHY he says he killed all the people on the island and created the car bomb that blew up a gov't building.

Though Breivik's actions were plain evil it doesn't mean that Sharia should not be rejected in Europe. that can be done without restoring to murder, if they have the will to do so.

Charles Ferguson shines a light on the global financial crisis in Inside Job.
Ferguson begins and ends in Iceland, a flourishing country that gave American-style banking a try -- and paid the price.
Then he looks at the spectacular rise and cataclysmic fall of deregulation in the United States. Unlike Alex Gibney's fiscal films, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room and Casino Jack, Ferguson builds his narrative around dozens of players, interviewing authors, bank managers, government ministers, and even a psychotherapist, who speaks to a culture that encourages Gordon Gekko-like behavior, but the number of those who declined to comment, like Alan Greenspan, is even larger.
He asks tough questions and elicits squirms from several participants, notably former Treasury secretary David McCormick and Columbia dean Glenn Hubbard, George W. Bush's economic adviser.
Their reactions are understandable, since the borders between Wall Street, Washington, and the Ivy League dissolved years ago; it's hard to know who to trust when conflicts of interest run rampant.
If Ferguson takes Reagan and Bush to task for tax cuts that benefit the wealthy, he criticizes Clinton for encouraging derivatives and Obama for failing to deliver on the promise of reform. And in the category of unlikely heroes: former governor Eliot Spitzer, who fought against fraud as New York's attorney general
2010 Oscar Winner for Best Documentary, 'Inside Job' provides a comprehensive analysis of the global financial crisis of 2008, which at a cost over $20 trillion, caused millions of people to lose their jobs and homes in the worst recession since the Great Depression, and nearly resulted in a global financial collapse. Through exhaustive research and extensive interviews with key financial insiders, politicians, journalists, and academics, the film traces the rise of a rogue industry which has corrupted politics, regulation, and academia. It was made on location in the United States, Iceland, England, France, Singapore, and China...
Outstanding films explains alot very clearly and exposes a lot. And it could have gone even Farther. but it's probably far enough for most.
