ERLANGER, Ky. -- A Kentucky man is charged with abuse after a 2-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital with a blood alcohol level of nearly three times the legal limit.

Police said Raymond Jackson slipped gin into his stepdaughter's favorite drink in Erlanger, Ky.

"She was pretty much almost in a coma. She was not responsive at all," the girl's mother Amanda Jackson said.

Amanda Jackson said she works nights at a nursing home and her husband watches the girl and the couple's 6-month-old son.

Amanda Jackson said on Friday night, she went to give her daughter when she got home from work and realized something was wrong.

"Friday night I got off work, went in there, checked on her, nothing. Rubbed her cheek, rubbed her face, tried shaking her arms, nothing. Her eyes were rolled in the back of her head, her breathing was real shallow. Yeah, it terrified me," Amanda Jackson said.

The toddler was rushed to the emergency room where doctors had trouble reviving her.

Amanda Jackson said her husband told her that the girl had been sneaking drinks from his glass -- a glass containing iced tea and gin.

Here... so the title and the last sentence don't contradict each other.

Doctors said if the toddler had weighed 100 pounds, her 0.259 BAC would equal seven gin and ice tea drinks. The girl weighs only 29 pounds. It was clear to her mother and police that she did not sneak a few sips.

Investigators said Raymond Jackson told them he put gin in her favorite drink, sweet tea, and encouraged the girl to drink it

and more on the
guyRaymond Jackson has a past misdemeanor conviction for child abuse in North Carolina involving the girl.

She also had a broken leg and some other injuries last month -- those injuries are now also under investigation as potential child abuse.
