Firing Squad Execution On Track
Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has denied a request to temporarily stay the execution of an inmate scheduled to be put to death by firing squad early Friday.
Ronnie Lee Gardner's lawyers had asked Herbert for the stay Thursday morning.
In a statement, Herbert said the materials provided to him already have been considered and decided upon by the courts or the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole. Herbert's letter to Gardner's attorneys says Gardner has had "a full and fair opportunity" to have his case considered.
The 49-year-old Gardner is scheduled to be executed just after midnight Friday at the Utah State Prison. He was sentenced to death for a 1985 capital murder conviction stemming from the fatal courthouse shooting of attorney Michael Burdell during an escape attempt.

Good! Maybe we should start hanging them again in the public square for all to watch...... We need to stop keeping them for life and just end their lives. Like they did their victims.....

Sell tickets and send the proceeds to the victims family. Works for me.

I'm OK with it.
It's difficult for me to explain but I think it goes back to living with what my brother did. He killed three girls, raped our sister (two of the girls were friends of hers) and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.....he was convicted during the time that the death penalty was not applicable in CA .... so he was given three consecutive life sentences. He should have been executed for what he did.....and it doesn't matter to me how ... after what he did he doesn't deserve any compassion.

DRAPER -- Condemned inmate Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed early Friday morning. The 49-year-old was pronounced dead at 12:17 a.m., about two minutes after the firing squad shot him.
Strapped to a metal chair, Gardner was fired upon by five anonymous marksmen standing behind a wall 25 feet away; all but one had live rounds.
Utah Department of Corrections executive director Tom Patterson said the marksmen were given a countdown from 5, and all fired on 2. It was a cadence the officers had chosen prior to the execution.

When asked if he had any final comments, Gardner said, "I do not. No."
Following his statement, a hood was placed over his head and the shots were fired.
Witness reports
Several reporters from local media outlets were allowed to witness Gardner's execution. During an early-morning press conference Friday, many said they were surprised at how quickly it all happened.
"A hood was then placed over his head, and about 30 seconds later the shots were fired, with a 'boom-boom,'" said KSL Newsradio reporter Sheryl Worsley.
The witnesses said they did not see any blood but did see Gardner's jumpsuit change color around his waist shortly after he was shot. Several assumed the color change was from pooling blood.
KSL TV News reporter Sandra Yi, who also witnessed the execution, said the most disturbing part for her was when Gardner's hand and arm continued to move after he had been shot. Worsley and some others saw the movement too.
"After the shots were fired, Gardner flinched and his left arm moved up and down a couple of times," Worsley said. "His finger and hand moved for about two minutes and then stopped."

Your brother is correct. Maybe the criminals would think twice before doing.....then again, most crimes are committed by some very stupid people, so maybe they wouldn't give a thought as to whether or not they should do the crime....
We could sell tickets and that would help with states money problems...

Yep....I have a strong stomach. I figure if one loses his head and commits a heinous crime, then he should literally lose his head.....at least taxpayers money would be put to a good cause, which is ridding us of vermin rather than coddling them....

I can understand the feeling on it, but to be honest, regardless of how the execution is carried out, the guy will still be dead at the end of it. So as long as it is a "clean" kill, I'm okay with it.

Really? What is a "clean" kill? How about we use the same method on them as they used on their victims?

:laugh2::laugh2: I've seen enough gore flicks in my life. Puking up my lunch is not what I had in mind. Instead, I'd think of it as another gore flick and sit and eat popcorn....:laugh2:
Whack..........off with the head.......And crunch.......goes the bones in the neck......:laugh2:
Simple, and right to the point. And a whole lot cheaper than dipping into my pocket for the next 40 years.....
