View Full Version : nsfw? Don't worry, it's safe, just a question!

Was thinking of adding a 'nsfw forum' where things a little 'edgier' can be posted. Tasteless jokes, the random boobie pic, and things that others might not want to see or read while at work.

If I do, I don't want it to be an invitation for porn and filth, but rather a place for adults that don't mind can have a little fun, while those not interested can avoid.

Thoughts?

If you do, I suggest that you hide it, and invite only those who you know are over 21.

Why. Like the internet isn't full of stuff besides 21 is a stupid age limit. Your a legal adult at 18 and can get in to watch all the rated R/muture stuff you want at 17.

I've seen other sites require this and I assume there is a legal reason for it. I could be wrong but why chance it?

If it's legal the age would be 18 not 21. besides what do ya plan on posting, hardcore porn and it's not like young kids are gona be hanging out on a politics board anyway.

Depends on the state, and you have to go for the most restrictive. I ain't a lawyer so I dunno. Just being cautious. Conservative.

That is the only way to go if your going to do such a thing, IMO.

Why not just use the steel cage or a forum with in it.

Cuz then kids can see it and exposing kids to porn (however it may be viewed or defined) is illegal in the US.

Ok, if you want. But make it very clear. I have tried to bring my wife on the board, she is not much of a "net" person, no worries, because I am not either, but if she saw that on this board, hmmmm. She would not question me per se, but, it looks bad. There are plenty of sites for that, and besides, there is the occasional NSFW pic/joke on the board and a warning is given.

If you create a new area for this, I think it will take away from the freedom of the board. It could also cause problems because if "we" enter that area, then, well, ya know what that means............

IMHO

Sounds like a good solution to me. I agree that it could detract from the image of the board.

People will stop tellin their ages if they know this. It's easy to lie and say your 21. You'd loose a lot of younger people's prespective if they wanted to post.

They would still be welcome posters. Just not in that forum.

They wouldn't tell their age if they knew they'd be locked out of a forum for it. Most don't anyway because they get treated like shit with the your too young comments.

I don't think it is a bad idea. I think it would be a great way to help keep those under age *cough*liberalnation*cough* away from such things that they are legally not old enough to view, since parents don't seem to want to pay attention to what their kids are doing.

Yes, there is a lot of adult content out there that can be viewed regardless of your age, so an age restricted forum here would help avoid that same issue.

It's your board Jim, so do with it what you will. If someone doesn't want to read or post in that forum, then they don't have to. At least the content is still contained there.

lol parents with 17 yo can't really stop them from having access to stuff anyway. Just FYI.

See now I feel single out. I'm the only under 18 here and wont be that for much longer. Either way now I'm curious what ya'll plan on posting if it's that bad it needs a special forum.

It's a slippery slope Jimny.

True, and that's my concern. That it would start out with some racier jokes and bra and panty pictures, and quickly evolve into a porn section, which is not what I meant or intended. Some lingerie, crude jokes and edgier stuff, but giving those that might be offended a chance to avoid.

If you do, I suggest that you hide it, and invite only those who you know are over 21.

I had that at USMB. Although it saw a lot of posts, it was all porn related. I'm really looking to separate edgier material from everyday material.

I've seen other sites require this and I assume there is a legal reason for it. I could be wrong but why chance it?

Technically speaking, the law lies within the viewer. So long as they are forewarned, they must follow the laws of where they live. So long as I don't violate my TOS, I should be ok, but I also agree a restricted area helps eliminate problems.

Agree, and well said. I think a [NSFW] tag might be just as good.

True!

How about we use our best judgment? If someone feels it might offend someone else, or it might be best to avoid opening while at work, add [NSFW] into the title of your post and then it can be avoided at appropriate times? Sound good to all?

No, mostly just the govmint and that might be a good thing, no? Private industry doesn't tend to put up with slackers. Funny how that works, a days pay for a days work, not a day of play etc.
