SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has issued an executive order barring California welfare recipients from using state-issued debit cards at casino ATMs.

Thursday's order followed a report by The Los Angeles Times that found CalWORKS cards were used to withdraw cash in more than half the casinos in the state.

The newspaper reported Thursday that welfare recipients have withdrawn more than $1.8 million in taxpayer cash at casinos since October.
Schwarzenegger's order requires welfare recipients to sign a pledge that they will use their benefits only to meet the basic needs of their families.

And, of course, Ahnold also put in place the bureau that will check each and every usage of these Welfare ATM cards, to make sure they are not at casinos?

And he has also passed the laws that describe how the welfare recipients will be punished and/or their Welfare payments taken away if they violate that pledge?

And he has put together some group that will follow the welfare recipients around, making sure they don't just withdraw the ATM funds at their local bank ATM (or the ATM at the gas station down the road from the casino), and then proceed merrily to the casino and blow it all?

Liberals are known for ineffective, unenforceable laws, but this one ranks up there with the very best.

Sounds kind of like the captain of the Titanic issuing an order forbidding water from coming in the holes torn by the iceberg.

Yeah, that'll work.

And what does this do to stop people from using that at another ATM and then going to the Casino?

And why doesn't the State pursue welfare fraud cases against anyone using it in Casinos?

Hey, they 'promise' right?

Yeah they do promise. And they are clearly breaking their promise. That's fraud.

You know what? Let them, just discontinue their existence on welfare at the end of their current period, with no chance for renewal or extension. They want to screw themselves into the ground, then they can do that, they're morons, but they can do it. We just don't have to keep handing them the money

...and the liberals will be screaming about all of the hungry children that are not being fed because the parents are spending food money on gambling. Their solution will be....just give them more money.:cuckoo:
