Trivia: Neither George Washington nor Betsy Ross had children of their own.
The design of the first American flag was approved on June14, 1777. The holiday, Flag Day, is a commemoration of this event.
July 4, 1776 is the date the Declaration of Independence was ratified by the Continental Congress. It is not the date of the Constitution of the United States. That document was not ratified until nearly 13 years later, in 1789.
Contrary to widespread opinion, Thomas Jefferson who wrote the Declaration of Independence, had little, if anything, to do with the writing of the Constitution of the United States.
George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, is not owned by the federal government. It is maintained and preserved by a non-profit organization, "The Mount Vernon Ladies Association".
The inscription on the Liberty Bell "Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof" is from the Book of Leviticus
The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and the Bill of Rights are kept at the National Archives in Washington, DC.
The Declaration of Independence, over time, has suffered from deterioration and, after restoration is stored in a metallic case filled with the inert gas, Argon.
