St. Paul mayor's car hit by alleged drunken driver

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman escaped injury on Thursday evening when an allegedly drunken driver rear-ended the city vehicle he was riding in with his police escort.

After the accident, Abbie Raymond, 22, of St. Paul was booked into the Ramsey County jail on a gross misdemeanor charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol, after she registered a 0.26 percent blood alcohol level, more than three times the legal limit.

Coleman was leaving a forum at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in St. Paul and his car was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Victoria and Summit Avenues when it was struck about 8:40 p.m., said St. Paul police spokesman Tom Walsh.

Walsh said Raymond's vehicle wasn't traveling more than 12 miles per hour when she hit Coleman's car, but "we're fortunate" that more harm wasn't done because of her blood alcohol level.

Bob Hume, spokesman for Coleman, said: "The mayor is pleased there were no injuries."

There was some talk this morning about the fact that this girl is studying to go to law school. In the state of MN, if you are convicted of a felony, even if you graduate law school and pass the bar, you cannot practice law here. Looks like she'll have to move to Massachusetts...

Don't drink and drive... simple...

but to answer your question of what would be the absolutely worse kind of car to hit while driving under the influence?

A police car.

Yer life would pretty much be over...

I don't know. The mayor's car...that's like 1000 points or something. I'd feel really bad if I hit a porsche or a ferrari. Now, the holy grail would be a shuttle bus filled with geriatrics, nuns and orphans. That'd be like a bazillion points I think.

I wouldn't want to hit the hearse in a funeral procession. Especially if the casket came tumbling out of the back, and opened up, and the body fell out. Unless of course it was the body of a child rapist/killer. Then it could be somewhat fun.

:)

(I also wouldn't want to hit Pale's beautiful motorcycle)

You would think they could at least put some low profile light racks on that thing.

The Texas Highway Patrol is using the new Dodge Chargers for interceptors.....saw one between Houston and San Antonio, looked like a pretty serious car."Does it got a Hemi in it?"

How about hitting the Pope mobile when drunk driving in Rome at the Vatican? Maybe you would at least get an audience with The Pope.:laugh2: :laugh2:

Looks like it's not.......

L.A. is testing them and they are faster than the other cop cars so I'm sure the CHIPS will be using them soon.

Interest in the Charger has been national in scope, and many departments across the nation — too many for us to keep track of — have ordered at least a single test unit, and often five to ten vehicles. As one would expect, highway and pursuit vehicles are generally V8s, and standard patrols are generally getting V6s.

These State Police and highway-authority buys were reported to us: Arkansas (first group, 80 cars, V6 and V8), Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa (22 so far, out of 380 in the fleet), Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina (200 orders in 2006; V6 for office-officers, V8 for road-officers), North Dakota (pictured, with Hemi), Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, Washington, Wisconsin (7 for testing), Wyoming Highway Patrol, Oregon (45 Hemi Chargers); Texas State Police (rumor: moving entire fleet); Utah (rumor: moving entire fleet); Virginia (36 Hemis for 2006).

The Mexican Highway Patrol also recently acquired a fleet of 816 Chargers, replacing both Crown Victorias and Intrepids. “The Dodge Charger police package made fans of the Mexican Federal Police, who commented that these new patrol cars have improved performance and more modern equipment such as the Global Positioning System and a 360° vision camera that reaches 100 meters and can be remote-control operated.” Mexico City bought 751 Neons for its police department in 2005.

The New York City police purchased fifteen units for testing, with ten Hemis and five V6s (for city-street use).

When will the new version of "Bullit" come out. There is a new Mustang, a new Charger and they could get Will Smith to play Steve McQueen's role.....sacreligious yes but they did it to "Wild Wild West"!

The Dodge Charger........

[sigh]

Wish I'd gotten one last June, instead of the sensible Honda Accord I bought.

I drove a rental Charger for a week in Florida, and I was actually looking for excuses to drive it.......e.g., "Anybody need anything from the store?"

If you hit a tanker truck just right, you could ignite a fireball.
