I'd been running my box for around 4 years, decent rig. It's a dual core amd64 with 8 Gig of RAM. I've been itching for the last year or so to build a new box with the Intel i7 but just couldn't justify it. Well I was chatting with my Niece and she's going back to school and her laptop was on it's last legs, cha ching! Found my excuse! So I built this screamer for myself and shipping my old rig to her --

Shuttle small form factor box
Intel i7 Hex core (yep, 6 cores)
16 Gig RAM
SSD drive (I have a NAS so I mount my data via NFS)

Anyway I haven't run Windows for a number of years other than testing in VMWare. I've been Linux on my Desktops and Lappy's for at least 5 years on, but check this out. I loaded up Win 7 in my VMWare, sliced off 2 cores for it and 5 Gig of RAM.

Damn, look at the Win 7 performance ratings!!!!

Been running Mint for years, it pulled me away from my beloved Gentoo for Desktops. And yes it Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeems, look at those stat's of Win 7 running in a VMWare, not bad for a Win 7 running as a virtual machine on a Linux Mint host eh? ;)
