The US will shell out a massive amount of $200 million a day when President Barack Obama comes on a visit to the Indian city Mumbai. A representative from the Maharashtra government has said in a statement that the whopping amount will cover costs related to his security staff, his place of boarding and also the travels that the President will have to make after he sets foot in India. Barack Obama will not only be accompanied with his wife Michelle Obama during his visit but also by several security staff, his personal staff from the White House and American journalists.
Reports claim that though the US President will bring his own security staff, the military staff of Maharashtra is also being trained to look into security issues of Barack Obama and it is for this reason that the officials other than the security staff will not be allowed to carry weapons after their arrival in Mumbai.
The Mumbai roads and coastline will reportedly record less traffic once Barack Obama reaches Mumbai. Police officials in Maharashtra are already being assigned their respective duties as the day is fast approaching. The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is also ready to welcome the US President.

Maybe if he would STAYI HOME and quit spending money on lavish visits and vacations his party would get more respect. Instead of getting their asses handed to them.

The hard-to-swallow claim originated with a Nov. 2 Press Trust of India article quoting an unnamed "top official" in the government of Maharashtra (one of India’s states). The source was quoted as saying that Obama’s upcoming trip to Mumbai will cost $200 million per day for security and living arrangements, among other things. The story claimed that the president would be accompanied by about 3,000 people, including Secret Service agents, government officials and journalists, and will stay at the Taj Mahal Hotel — the scene of a 2008 terrorist attack.
and the hypocrisy, as always, is overflowing from the right
There may be 7,000 hotel rooms in the capitol, but just about all will be occupied by U.S. President George W. Bush's delegation during his visit here Tuesday through Friday.

34 warships sent from US for Obama visit
Press Trust of India (http://www.ndtv.com/search?q=Press+Trust+of+India), Updated: November 04, 2010 22:42 IST
http://www.ndtv.com/news/images/story_page/BarackObama295.jpg
New Delhi: The White House will, of course, stay in Washington but the heart of the famous building will move to India when President Barack Obama lands in Mumbai on Saturday.
Communications set-up and nuclear button and majority of the White House staff will be in India accompanying the President on this three-day visit that will cover Mumbai and Delhi.
He will also be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his two-day stay there beginning Saturday. The measure has been taken as Mumbai attack in 2008 took place from the sea.
Arrangements have been put in place for emergency evacuation, if needed
Obama is expected to fly by a helicopter -- Marine One -- from the city airport to the Indian Navy's helibase INS Shikra at Colaba in south Mumbai.
Two jets, armed with advanced communication and security systems, and a fleet of over 40 cars will be part of Obama's convoy.
Around 800 rooms have been booked for the President and his entourage in Taj Hotel and Hyatt.
The President will have a security ring of American elite Secret Service, which are tasked to guard the President, along with National Security Guards (NSG) and personnel from central paramilitary forces and local police in Mumbai and Delhi.
Similar arrangements will be in place in Delhi, with the Air Force One to be kept in all readiness throughout Obama's stay here from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday morning.
Maurya Hotel, where the President will stay, has already been swarmed by American security personnel and protective measures have been put in place.
Security drills have already been carried out at the hotel as well as Rajghat, where he will visit.
Sources said 13 heavy-lift aircraft with high-tech equipment, three helicopters and 500 US security personnel have arrived in India ahead of Obama's visit.
The US security has also brought interception and obstruction device, sniffer dogs, rescue gadgets.
Apart from Obama's Air Force One, a few private luxury jets carrying top American corporate leaders, who are part of Obama's entourage, are also expected to arrive in India in the next 2-3 days.
All high-rise buildings in the vicinity of Mumbai's Taj Mahal hotel and Delhi's Maurya Sheraton hotel, where the US President will stay, are being sanitised and security personnel will be positioned on rooftops to prevent any air-borne attack.
The Ridge area - opposite Delhi's Maurya Sheraton hotel - has been illuminated by floodlights as part of the heightened security drill.
The Home Ministry has already issued an alert for Mumbai and Delhi asking authorities to take extra precautions during Obama's visit as well as on Diwali on Friday

It sprang from Matt Drudge's fevered mind as he ignored the simple fact that the story from India stated the cost, not in dollars, but Indian Rupees. I'd like to see bully or ST explain why so many warships are needed. Is there some serious lynching going on in India?
I really dont get what the warships are about, presumably they are there for reasons other than Obama. They also greatly inflate the cost of the trip (be it 200 million a day or not) because If they where not there they would be somewhere else using the same amount of fuel etc and costing the same (unless they where in dock).
But unless the Gov. have got wind of a hidden AQ navy (Aqua Al Qaeda?) then sending them to 'protect' Obama would be stupid.
Also, If the navy is there, is that Obamas call or someone elses?

And, of course, FOX Noise and it's lackeys in right wing radio all engage in a continuous self-referencing circle-jerk using the technique of the "Big Lie"...repeat a thing often enough and loudly enough, and the more gullible will will believe it to be true.

As a matter of fact,
The operation, dubbed "Clear Skies," will cost Israel $25,000 for every hour Bush is in the country. Its their police and security that are using most of the hotel rooms in the city.
About 450 rooms in the King David Hotel, where Bush is staying, and the Dan Panorama will be used by his entourage and as a press center. Not even close to 7000

Bully, media matters is not a reliable source for anything except liberal propaganda.
As far as the security for the dark lord. The military is not going to say how many ships or aircraft are in the area. There could be two or there could be 60. And the number of planes flying in would also be classified and the number unknown to anyone not needing to know. If there is a carrier group in the area then there is going to be 12 to 20 ships in the area. Plus nuclear subs. His entourage is another story. Secret service have to be there. Other than important officials that also have to be there there will be a huge number of hangers on. That's where the obscene waste of tax payers money comes in. They must entertain their friends.

Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell did not shy away from dismissing reports that appeared in Indian media outlets, such as the Press Trust of India and the television network NDTV. The Press Trust of India is that country’s largest news agency…
“I will take the liberty this time of dismissing as absolutely absurd this notion that somehow we were deploying 10 percent of the Navy — some 34 ships and an aircraft carrier — in support of the president’s trip to Asia,” said Morrell at today’s Pentagon briefing. “That’s just comical. Nothing close to that is being done.”…

How to do India on $200 million a day
Look for most U.S. media --- including reporters on the trip --- not to focus on figures, equipment, hotel accommodations, menus and costs of the trip, which also takes the president and entourage to Indonesia, South Korea and Japan.
The journey comes three days after voters on Tuesday indicated federal spending should be cut.
Aside from the equivalent of two Air Force squadrons involved, the military-like "invasion" in India includes:
• Six armored vehicles.
• Three Marine One helicopters.
• Forty five vehicles, including a Lincoln Continental for Obama and family.
• Thirty four U.S. Navy ships, including an aircraft carrier, patrolling off Mumbai.
• About 3,000 people --- or, in military terms, equal to three battalions --- including Secret Service agents (30 to 40 already are on the scene), U.S. government officials, journalists and…
• The president’s chef.
The entire luxury five-star, 560-room, 44-suite seaside Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, along with its restaurants, is booked to accommodate some of the three battalions.
About 305 additional rooms are booked at three other hotels, including the Grand Hyatt.

From Snopes.
Claim: * President Obama's November 2010 trip to India will cost taxpayers $200 million per day.
FALSE
Origins: * On 2 November 2010, the Press Trust of India published an article about U.S. President Barack Obama's upcoming 10-day Asian trip (scheduled to begin in India, followed by visits to Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan), stating that the American chief executive would be accompanied by a contingent of 3,000 people and would be taking over the entire 570-room Taj Mahal Palace hotel during his stay in Mumbai, at a cost to U.S. taxpayers of about $200 million per day. Another report from the same source claimed the President would be "protected by a fleet of 34 warships" during his time in Mumbai:
...
The information from that Indian article was quickly picked up and repeated as fact by a number of media outlets in the U.S. and elsewhere, but its veracity is dubious. The only source for the claim about the mind-blowing $200 million per day expense outlay was a single foreign news report which quoted an anonymous Indian official and provided no detail whatsoever (or even a general explanation) about how the $200 million sum was derived or could possibly be expended.
However, citing a cost figure of $200 million per day stretches credulity to the breaking point: That number would entail a total outlay of $400 million for the two-day visit (a whopping $2 billion if the cost were applied across the entire ten-day trip), and even if President Obama were accompanied by a prodigious 3,000-person entourage, with the U.S. government picking up the entire tab for all of them, the U.S. would have to be spending the unbelievably staggering sum of $66,000 per person per day to reach that figure.

So now Snopes is a spokement for the WH Noir?
One day after the massive electoral rebellion across the U.S. against the mega-spending policies of Washington, President Barack Obama embarks on a ten-day trip to Asia with 3,000 people at a cost of $200 million per day alone in Mumbai, India:
“The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit,” a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.
About 3,000 people including Secret Service agents, US government officials and journalists would accompany the President. Several officials from the White House and US security agencies are already here for the past one week with helicopters, a ship and high-end security instruments.
“Except for personnel providing immediate security to the President, the US officials may not be allowed to carry weapons. The state police is competent to take care of the security measures and they would be piloting the Presidential convoy,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

Well, Red, I'm just callin' it like I sees it. And the awful truth of the GOP victory Tuesday is that it will set the country back years, if not decades, in dragging itself out of the mire the Bush administration left it in.
As for not defending the Obama administration more, there was...and is...much they continue to do that is indefensible. Namely their lack of spine in the face of the utter intransigence and obstructionism of congressional Republicans.

I know I posted something about the 34 warships going with Obama. The news spread virally around the internet, and coming from Indian inside government sources, I would have thought it true. But honestly, mine was a knee jerk reaction and I didn't even realize that it was like 30 or 40% of our capacity. So I'll say I believe that story, and my post, were both bogus.
Nonetheless, Obama's trip and expenses that we know of are unprecedented, regardless of what ST the troll wants to state. Here's a good article to put it into context:

Your Obama derangement syndrome is obvious.
What has precedent here though is the right wing-nut noise machine, as it so often does, creates a story from whole cloth. The only resemblance to reality this story by the right has is that the President has, indeed, embarked on his trip.
