And I will try and leave this as respectful as possible. These are words/quotes/verses that are supposedly in the Quran. But I'm sure our resident apologist will state they aren't, or those that think so aren't "true musilms". These verses were taken from a YouTube video that mocks Muhammed, so I am not going to post the video, just the verses.

"He who obeys the messenger, obeys Allah" 4:80

"If anyone opposes or contradicts the messenger, we shall burn him in hell" 4:115

"Those who annoy the messenger will have a painful torment" 9:61

"The only saying of the faithful believers is that they say, "we hear and we obey" 24:51

"It is not for a believer When allah and his messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision" 33:36

"and know that whatever bounty you may capture, a fifth of it belongs to allah and the messenger" 8:41

"Verily, we have made lawful to you your wives and those female slaves whom allah has given to you as war bounty" 33:50

"... And any believing woman if she offers herself to the prophet. A privilege for the prophet only, not for the rest of the believers" 33:50

"O wives of the prophet. Whoever of you who commits illegal sexual intercourse, the torment for her will be doubled" 33:30

"They ask you O muhammed about the spoils of war. Say, "The spoils are for allah and the messenger" 8:1

"Enter not the prophets houses, unless permission is given to you for a meal. If you are invited, enter, and when you have taken your meal, disperse without sitting for a talk. Such behavior annoys the prophet." 33:53

"Whoever thinks that allah will not help muhammed, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and let him strangle himself" 22:15

"We have sent down to thee clear revelations and none reject them but those who are perverse" 2:99

"muhammed is the messenger of allah and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves." 48:29

"My lord, leave not one of the disbelievers on the earth. If you leave them, they will mislead your slaves, and they will beget none but wicked disbelievers" 71:26

First of all, let me thank you for not insulting or posting the videos or any picture, and i will try to answer all your posted verses.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"He who obeys the messenger, obeys Allah" 4:80

004.080 He who obeys the Messenger, obeys God: But if any turn away, We have not sent thee to watch over them.

people who try to insult muhammed often clip the verses, a verse cannot be understood unless its readen fully.

anyway, the verse means that those who listen to muhammed and obeys what he tells them, then they obey allah, because muhammed only speaks what allah taught him, but those who doesnt want to listen to muhammed, then he wasnt sent to watch over them, he doesnt have to judge them or force them to believe in him, its their choice not to believe in him, and he wasnt sent to rule over people, just to preach them and advice, not rule.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"If anyone opposes or contradicts the messenger, we shall burn him in hell" 4:115

004.115 If anyone contends with the Messenger even after guidance has been plainly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than that becoming to men of Faith, We shall leave him in the path he has chosen, and land him in Hell,- what an evil refuge!

the verse is not talking about everyone who oppose the messenger, just the people who follow him then leave him, its says that when you believe in him, and in his guidance to the right path, and after that you leave him, then you will be left to the path you choose "NOTICE THAT PLEASE", it didnt say kill or anything, just says "WE SHALL LEAVE HIM TO THE PATH HE HAS CHOSEN", and then this path will be judged by allah, and he will go to hell if the path he has taked is evil.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Those who annoy the messenger will have a painful torment" 9:61

009.061 Among them are men who molest the Prophet and say, "He is (all) ear." Say, "He listens to what is best for you: he believes in God, has faith in the Believers, and is a Mercy to those of you who believe." But those who molest the Apostle will have a grievous penalty.

all the verse you post are perverted in a way to serve the purpose of the videos, i hope that you notice that by now.

the verse speaks about people who used to hurt Muhammed, so those who hurt muhammed by any mean of harm, will be judged by allah for their actions.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
"The only saying of the faithful believers is that they say, "we hear and we obey" 24:51

024.051 The answer of the Believers, when summoned to God and His Apostle, in order that he may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, "We hear and we obey": it is such as these that will attain felicity.

the verse means that when two muslims have a problem, if they take it to the prophet to be their judge, then when he judges them, then should only obey, because further objections will lead only to more problems, if they want the judgement of the prophet, then they should listen to it, if they didnt want it, then they shouldnt ask for it in the first place, its just the court system, when you take your problem to the court, you have to do as the judge says in the end, otherwise, you should have solved your problem outside the court.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"It is not for a believer When allah and his messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision" 33:36

033.036 It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by God and His Apostle to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys God and His Apostle, he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path.

when allah and the prophet decides something, its not up to us muslims to refuse it, if we dont believe in what they say, then we shouldnt follow them in the first place, and we should not be muslims, you cant be christian while denouncing what christ said, can you ?

when christ say not to lie, can you say that lie is not a sin ?

we dont have any option to say that its not a sin, but we do have the option to do it or not, just not to change the judgement of it, we cant do the wrong thing while convincing ourselfs that its the right thing.

so do you follow the wrong path when you have sex before marriage, of course you do, but none will stop you, its the same in islam, if we want to have sex before marriage, its the wrong path, but we can do it if we want, we have the option to do something, but not the option to do it as believers, we cant do it and call it a virture, if we do it, we know that its a sin.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
"and know that whatever bounty you may capture, a fifth of it belongs to allah and the messenger" 8:41

008.041 And know that out of all the booty that ye may acquire (in war), a fifth share is assigned to Allah,- and to the Messenger, and to near relatives, orphans, the needy, and the wayfarer,- if ye do believe in Allah and in the revelation We sent down to Our servant on the Day of Testing,- the Day of the meeting of the two forces. For Allah hath power over all things.

again with the clipping.
when in a war, fifth of the spoils that we may get, goes to the benifit of all muslims like community services, the near relatives in need, and the orphans, the people who are in need, and the wayfarer who pases through our land, so when it says fifth is assigned to allah and the messenger, doesnt mean you give it to Muhammed, it just means to spend it in charity.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Verily, we have made lawful to you your wives and those female slaves whom allah has given to you as war bounty" 33:50

033.050 O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowries; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom God has assigned to thee; and daughters of thy paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of thy maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated (from Makka) with thee; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;- this only for thee, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;- in order that there should be no difficulty for thee. And God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

the verse just states the women that Muhammed can mary, not the women that he can sleep with, so it just says that he can marry slave women if he want to, or the woman that he can afford to pay their dowry, or the woman who offers herself to him to be his wife without a dowry, but if the slave woman refuse to marry him, he cant marry her, the verse just allow him to marry the slave, not to force her to marry him.

This is how Muhammed treated slaves:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner_of_war#Middle_Ages_and_Renaissance

In pre-Islamic Arabia, upon capture, those captives not executed were made to beg for their subsistence. During the early reforms under Islam, Muhammad changed this custom and made it the responsibility of the Islamic government to provide food and clothing, on a reasonable basis, to captives, regardless of their religion. If the prisoners were in the custody of a person, then the responsibility was on the individual. He established the rule that prisoners of war must be guarded and not ill-treated, and that after the fighting was over, the prisoners were expected to be either released or ransomed. The freeing of prisoners in particular was highly recommended as a charitable act. Mecca was the first city to have the benevolent code applied.

It is misunderstood that the leader of the Muslim force capturing non-Muslim prisoners could choose whether to kill prisoners, to ransom them, to enslave them, or to cut off their hands and feet on alternate sides because this law is not applied to the prisoners of wars but applied to the people ( either Muslims or non-Muslims ) who do mischief in the land, Gangsters, Killers of the people for Robbery or raping of women or children. However, Christians who were captured in the Crusades were sold into slavery if they could not pay a ransom.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"... And any believing woman if she offers herself to the prophet. A privilege for the prophet only, not for the rest of the believers" 33:50

part of the previous verse, it means as i said, that he can marry her without paying the dowry if she offered to be his wife without any dowry, but for the rest of the muslims, they must pay a dowry even if the bride says she doesnt want it, so a privilege for the prophet just means that he can marry her without a dowry if she offered to be his wife without it, but if he wants to marry a women who didnt offer herself, he has to pay her a dowry, the verse is simply about the dowry, nothing more.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"O wives of the prophet. Whoever of you who commits illegal sexual intercourse, the torment for her will be doubled" 33:30

033.030 O Consorts of the Prophet! If any of you were guilty of evident unseemly conduct, the Punishment would be doubled to her, and that is easy for God.

it means, that when wifes of Muhammed commits any sin, her punishment will be the double of any other muslims women, because they act as models to other muslim women, so when she does something wrong, other muslim women will follow her, and the verse is not about illegal sexual intercourse, its about any sin in general, when you are a model to other, you should live up to your role in the community.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"They ask you O muhammed about the spoils of war. Say, "The spoils are for allah and the messenger" 8:1

008.001 They ask thee concerning (things taken as) spoils of war. Say: "(such) spoils are at the disposal of Allah and the Messenger: So fear Allah, and keep straight the relations between yourselves: Obey Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe."

it means that the spoils of war is divided as Allah says in the quran, and tells people to fear allah and not steal from it, 4 fifth of it go to the fighters and the last fifths is for charity, its divided between the puplic community services and the orphans and people in need and travelers who are passing through our lands and dont have any money left.

but again, it doesnt mean that the money goes to Muhammed, just means that the money is divided as Muhammed says, and not to steal from the money, as the one who steals from it, should fear allah's judgement.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Enter not the prophets houses, unless permission is given to you for a meal. If you are invited, enter, and when you have taken your meal, disperse without sitting for a talk. Such behavior annoys the prophet." 33:53

033.053 O Ye who believe! Enter not the dwellings of the Prophet for a meal without waiting for the proper time, unless permission be granted you. But if ye are invited, enter, and, when your meal is ended, then disperse. Linger not for conversation. Lo! that would cause annoyance to the Prophet, and he would be shy of (asking) you (to go); but Allah is not shy of the truth.

it just says that when you enter Muhammed's house, do not enter for a long time before the meal is prepared, and leave after you eat, because Muhammed didnt discuss matters in his house, he used the mosque as a place of meeting with people and talking with them, the home is a place to eat and sleep and live with his wifes and kids, not to discuss islamic matters with muslims and judge between them, but the verse didnt mean to stay silent in his home, just not to go on too much conversation, and not to discuss problems of the nation in his house, the house is just a place for his family, not for discussing problems, Muhammed like to separate between his family and the islamic nation matters.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Whoever thinks that allah will not help muhammed, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and let him strangle himself" 22:15

022.015 If any think that God will not help him (His Apostle) in this world and the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling, and let him hang himself, then cut off the rope: then let him see whether his plan will remove that which enrages (him)!

the verse doesnt say that he should kill himself, the real verse, says to stretch himself to the ceiling with a rope, then cut the rope off, then to see if that experience will let his anger out, i dont understand the meaning behind this experience, but at least it doesnt tell him to kill himself which is what you understood from the version in the videos, just to stretch himself, then to release himself.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"We have sent down to thee clear revelations and none reject them but those who are perverse" 2:99

002.099 We have sent down to thee Manifest Signs (ayat); and none reject them but those who are miscreant.

the verse says that Allah sent book which holds clear signs for the people who disbelieve in his existence, as the Allah just ask people to have good deeds, so only the miscreants will disbelieve in Allah, the verse doesnt say "perverse".

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"muhammed is the messenger of allah and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves." 48:29

048.029 Muhammad is the Messenger of God; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from God and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Tawrah; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. God has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward.

the verse just says that muslims are strong in wars against disbelievers who attack them, and merciful among each other, then the verse continue to describe the muslims who pray and follow Quran, as the christians who follow the bible "Gospel", or the jews who follow the Torah.

but the verse doesnt say "severe" which means to be cruel to someone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"My lord, leave not one of the disbelievers on the earth. If you leave them, they will mislead your slaves, and they will beget none but wicked disbelievers" 71:26

071.021 Noah said: "O my Lord! They have disobeyed me, but they follow (men) whose wealth and children give them no increase but only Loss.

071.022 "And they have devised a tremendous Plot.

071.023 "And they have said (to each other), 'Abandon not your gods: Abandon neither Wadd nor Suwa', neither Yaguth nor Ya'uq, nor Nasr';-

071.024 "They have already misled many; and grant Thou no increase to the wrong- doers but in straying (from their mark)."

071.025 Because of their sins they were drowned (in the flood), and were made to enter the Fire (of Punishment): and they found- in lieu of God- none to help them.

071.026 And Noah, said: "O my Lord! Leave not of the Unbelievers, a single one on earth!

the verses talk about Noah, as he asked GOD to take all the unbelievers in the flood, because they told the people not to listen to Noah and not to believe in GOD, and to continue worshiping their stone gods, which their names is mentions in 071.023 "Wadd nor Suwa', neither Yaguth nor Ya'uq, nor Nasr", so that verse doesnt ask Muhammed or muslim to kill disbelievers at all, its doesnt talk about Islam in the first place, it just tell the tale of Noah and his people and the flood, thats all.

Thanks, Abso. Prior quotes I spoke with my Muslim friends about before posting here. I should have done the same, but instead I jumped to conclusions and assumed I was reading the entire thing. I should have known better. Thank you for taking the time to explain each verse for me.

I'm a real jerk most of the time, but that's because I generally only jump into threads that piss me off. But while I'm ready, willing and able to go into "attack mode" - I'm just as available to admit when I'm wrong, apologize or just give credit where it's due. I soften up on people after awhile. :coffee:

The previous exchange makes my heart with the love that only God can bestow upon His subjects.

Blessed are you both and peace be with you!
