How much more do we have to take?

HAYMARKET, Va. (WUSA) -- They call themselves the "Christmas Sweater Club" because they wear the craziest ones they can find. They also sing Christmas songs at school and try their best to spread Christmas cheer.

Now all 10 of them are in trouble because of what they did at their school.

"They said, 'maliciously maim students with the intent to injure.' And I don't think any of us here intentionally meant to injure anyone, or did," said Zakk Rhine, a junior at Battlefield High School.

The boys say they were just tossing small two-inch candy canes to fellow students as they entered school. The ones in plastic wrap that are so small they often break apart.

Skylar Torbett, also a junior, said administrators told him, "They said the candy canes are weapons because you can sharpen them with your mouth and stab people with them." He said neither he nor any of their friend did that.

Next thing they knew, they were all being punished with detention and at least two hours of cleaning. Their disciplinary notices say nothing about malicious wounding but about littering and creating a disturbance.

"It was at 7 in the morning, before school even starts, so I don't what we'd be really disrupting," said Cameron Gleason, also a junior.

.................................................. ................... Jesus Christ, that principal has a sick mind! What sane, rationally minded adult looks at a candy cane and goes, "You know, with a little work, I could make a shiv out of that"?

OK, what's weird is that last week the high school I was at, had 'ugly Christmas sweaters/ties/vest contest for teachers-same day as the breakfast. If kids voted, they got a candy cane. LOL! The real sized, shiv ready!

thank goodness I live in BFE.

Last week we went to the high school band concert and listened to the Hallelujah Chorus sung by the choir and accompanied by the band. The night before we listened to the Middle school band play Joy to the World, among other songs.

My daughter plays in the drum line and they sounded amazing.

Christmas in alive and well...............away from the cities.

Consider yourself lucky Trigg. The left will get around to you sooner or later

As the cities become more overtaxed and the libs move out - they will get to neck of the woods and start doing to your town what they did to the city they left

Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!

I think it will be awhile. EVERYONE stood for the chorus it was sung beautifullly. I am thrilled to say that my children are being brought up in the same way I was.

Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you. We hear about the schools with pc principals, not the run of the mills. The district I was referring to earlier is one with 2 high schools, both over 3k kids. Both schools are decorated and have had the Madrigals singing traditional carols, they done so forever. Of course they provide the opportunities for other religions to be represented and at various times of the year have ethnic celebrations during down times, like lunch and study halls. Students are encourage in art, writings, etc., to express themselves and their backgrounds. Seems to me that is the traditional route and served the country well in social cohesion for over 200 years.
