So.. I was watching MSNBC's Dateline show the other day where they setup a "sting operation" at a house. The premise of the show was that they had setup online decoy's posing as 13-year old's - both boys and girls...

The online decoy would invite them over to this house claiming their parents were all out of town. I can't tell you how many sicko's it attracted - some from hours away.

This got me wondering the questions of "Is it me, or does it seem like there are more Child Predator's now?"

Is there more since when we were kids or are they just getting exposed no more often?

If there has been a rise - I can't help but think there's a link to the ease-of-access to pornagraphy nowdays online and that these pervs all start their acts online w/ the "kids".

I think many folks in this country dismiss how dangerous porn can be - it takes the mind places it should never go to..

So many of the predators they interviewed claimed that they never say themselves going down this road but it started off casual.. then captured their mind down the dark path....

Anyway... just food for thought..

I don't think there are actually that many more child predators now. However, the internet has ensured that more of them succeed in finding a child and 24 hour news stations have ensured that every child predator is national news.

Well if NAMBLA has their way, pedophilia will be legal, and the aclu will help.

Well there are more people every day. More people, more pervs, more kids even.....

Whether the rate is higher I dunno. 20-30 years ago a surprisingly large number of women reported having been "abused" by a family member as a teen or as a child. Something like 1/3.

Since these numbers are always estimates it seems it would be almost impossible to answer the question accurately.

This is true. I can't help but think of all the priest incidents that happened, but back then no one talked about it. Now virtually everyone is talking. And most of the acts occurred decades ago.

I don't think there is more, I think that todays society makes it easier for kids to tell. I'm not sure how old you are, but there was a time when children weren't informed about what was proper and what wasn't. We were taught that you never question an adult, especially if that adult was a priest or a teacher.

I don't think it's so much the ease of access, but the ease of getting close to a child through the internet. Again, speaking of just say 10 years ago, it would have been close to impossible to "talk" to a child without being noticed by someone. Now you can do it in the privacy of your own bedroom.

Porn and kiddie porn are two totally diffeerent things. A pediphile is not going to get turned on by adult porn.

Yeah, that's what they all say.......I mean wouldn't anyone? For everyone that gets caught and says it's their first time, I'd bet my house that they've gotten away with it many times before.

When I was a kid they were called 'strangers' or 'bad men' I didn't have a clue what they did other than 'take you away'.They have always been here, the strangers and bad men, better policing and media reporting make us more aware of them, thats all.

We should hang the bastards, then there would be less of them.
