Suspect in Custody After 3 Students Shot at California High School

DEVELOPING: Authorities have one person in custody after a gunman shot three students Tuesday morning at a high school in Los Angeles, Fox News confirms.

Police said three people were shot Tuesday morning at Gardena High School, about 15 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

Gardena police Lt. Steve Prendergast said the alleged gunman -- a black male wearing black clothing -- is believed to be a student.

Prendergast said the three victims have been treated by paramedics and transported to a hospital.

A Los Angeles fire official told KABC-TV that at least one victim is in critical condition.

Prendergast said a teacher called 911 at 10:41 a.m. local time and police from the city of Gardena initially responded. The school is actually located in the city of Los Angeles and the incident is being turned over to Los Angeles police.

The school is currently on lockdown as SWAT teams surround the building. A nearby elementary school is also on lockdown.

MyFoxLA reports that police have identified the suspect, who is 14 or 15 years old. The station also reports that police have found a weapon.

LA Times is saying the gun "accidently" went off in his backpack.

They're also questioning how the gun got past the metal detectors.

Why was he carrying a gun to school???????

He must have had it loaded with magic bullets for it go off in his back pack and hit three people.

Of course guns, like SUV's just act randomly on there own. I wonder how the media will spin this to blame Palin and talk radio.

Why was he carrying a gun to school???????

Obviously exercising his Second Amendment rights.

I am surprised that Gardena has metal detectors. Our school district doesn't. Of course, we have our own police department.

I am blaming the incident on Sarah Palin.

But wait Gabs!!! Isn't the school a "gun free zone" so the law is already in place, why would this law abiding citizen break a simple rule like that??

You have YOUR own police for the school??? How F***ing bad does a school have to be for yo to have your own police force for it????

That's a good point, Nuke! There is indeed a law prohibiting firearms on school grounds.

Perhaps Gabs has a more sternly worded law in mind that would have deterred this scalawag from illegally bringing a gun to school.
