While CA is going broke the liberals decide to spend taxpayer money for this

How soon before CA come to DC to ask for a bailout?

While the country’s cities and states are cutting employment benefits, Berkeley City Council members will decide Tuesday whether to set aside taxpayer dollars for city workers to get sex-change operations.

The vote, expected this evening, would permit the city to dole out $20,000 in cash stipends from its general budget to pay for the surgeries – even as a city auditor warns of ballooning employee benefits costs.

A new City Manager's report states that the city has unfunded liabilities — including pension funds, workers' compensation and vacation payouts — totaling as much as $252 million. City auditor Anne Marie Hogan, who authored the report, cautioned that employee benefits for the city’s 1,500 workers represent a rapidly increasing cost to Berkeley and that measures must immediately be taken to lower these expenditures.

And some are questioning why Berkeley would set aside taxpayer dollars for sex-change operations — a procedure not covered by the city’s two insurers — when the cash is needed for much more critical city functions -- like road improvements.

This is one of the many reasons why you hear about renewed calls by Californians to split California into 2 or 3 states. The north western coast of CA is very progressive and tends to piss off the rest of vastly conservative parts of the state with stuff like this. Splitting has been tried about 30 times in the past, the most recent was back in '92, but it never get's past the Senate.

Anyway, they been paying for sex changes in San Fran. for a number of years now. That's the place you have to watch because they set the standard by which every other liberal progressive city in Cali. compares itself.

In the shape the state if CA is in, are you sure they would want it?

In fact, why would anyone want it?

As of 2008,California is the eighth largest economy in the world, accouting for 13% of the US domestic product. According to fortune magazine 57 of the fortune 500 companies have their headquarters in CA. Yet we can't balance a budget. Capital interests don't equate to the social interests in the big picture. The Berkeley CC said no, Burger King Kid. Thanks for being fair and balanced enough to mention this.

Here is a fair and balanced response;

BERKELEY (KCBS/CBS 5/AP) – The Berkeley City Council has postponed a vote on a proposal to use taxpayer money to pay for sex-change operations for city employees, but it is still expected to be approved.
KCBS’ Tim Ryan Reports:

Berkeley Council members on Tuesday decided to delay a final decision on the issue until Feb. 15, so that the language in the proposal could be fine-tuned.

“As a transgendered woman myself, I’m interested in removing the discriminatory distinctions against the medical treatment of transexuality, just in a civil rights point of view,” said finance employee Lynn Riordan, who is behind the proposal. “I’ve been working on this in the City of Berkeley, my employer, for the last couple of years.”

A postonement is not the same as saying no.

Having lived in the vicinity of Berkley for far to many years(Sonoma county)nothing, I repeat NOTHING that goes on in that State surprises me.

The tree huggers have just about killed a five generation old work force with their stupid concern over a fucking owl.

You know what place on Earth most reminds me of San Francisco? GREECE, I'll let that stand on its own.:slap:

If it weren't for straw men, you'd have nothing to play with.

Since the Berkeley City Council vote on the issue was only postponed (not voted no), we can invoke Obama's 2008 campaign slogan of "Hope and Change". And with that glimmer of hope and change, PR could still go to work for the glorious bastion of liberalism that is the city of Berkeley and have a sex reassignment surgery with an addadictome. Remember, "Hope and Change", we are cheering for you PR, you go!

How far could we apply this civil right. Asians get eye lifts, black's skin bleaching, whites free tanning, jews nose jobs, blondes education credits, women driving lessons-- America: the melting pot of uniformity!:laugh2:

I'm not interested in sex reassignment surgery, thanks. Maybe spending a few days living in the body of a Playboy model, just to find out what sex is like from the other side, but that's about it. It's still a man's world out there.

Why not? If you had the opportunity for a few days, it would be very phobic not to take it. :boobies:

I've never had a desire to get plowed by Bubba.

You have fun with it, though. It explains a lot about why you're so liberal... no father figure is rough from what I understand.

Trust me, it's not something I think about with any seriousness. Seeing as it's in the realm of total impossibility.

Your desires will probably change once you're in Afghanistan for a while, though.
