Seems all fun and games until asked if he believes in the free-market system; then crickets. Ol' Moore needs to a little probing into Friedman's monetarism and the effects of raising the poor's std of living.

Why is anything from Michael Moore, treated as "news"?

I truly despise Moore, I really do.
I didn't see where he attacked Colbert, though. And I don't think he liked Colbert calling him "Comrade", either, lol.
Friedman was good, going to have to search out more of him.

The "attack" by Moore was when he called him a "tool of viacom", to which Colbert added "happy...", wearing the intended insult with pride.
Yea, Friedman was a very great man. He had insight into everything from the great depression and poverty to socialized medicine and drug legalization. It comes close to being a downright conspiracy that Friedman's ideas on economic freedom are too often a blurb in economic texts; favoring instead Keynesian policies, when Friedman was far better at describing economic complexities in a simple and practical manner. Check other youtube videos, happy searching! -d

Yea, amen bro. Thanks LR for that post. I had never heard Friedman before. He does put it in a very articulate manner.
I just loved that one about the doctor and cancer. College kis and their stupid one liners, they are so arrogant until confronted with the truth, or someone speaking it.

So many get confused, I think, when defending the unions. YES, they were needed in order to stop child labor, unsafe work conditions and a host of other detrimental work practices.
We have laws to prevent the working conditions that the labor unions originally fought for, they WON. They have a great history.
Sadly now the unions are there to keep the jobs of those caught drinking and smoking pot on the job. They are driving wages so high that we can no longer compete in the world market. They have outlived their usefulness.

I'm guessing "Ol' Moore" knows that "free trade" is merely a cover story for predatory greed.
Naomi Klein has Friedman's number and describes him, and the damage from his cover story, in "Shock Doctrine."

Welcome!
Thank you very much Kathianne.
I should also add that Moore was hardly attacking Colbert. They were bantering. Standard stuff for that show.

Welcome pottersville. I haven't read ShockDOctrine, but I have seen a few of her videos criticizing Friedman. So far as greed, do you think Moore and Klein give their books away at cost, or do they profit?
I'll let Friedman speak for himself.

Naomi Klein preys on youthful idealism.
Mike Tyson once said " Plans are good, but once you punch them in the head really hard, the plans go out the window"
Meaning, plans = idealism punch to the head = reality.
When all of us grow older, we shed the idealism as reality hits us in the face.

A Donahue sighting! Damn you logroller!!! j/k I don't think Klein even knows what number Friedman was working on let alone she has it.
Do we think Potter will be back with some additional information? It's one thing to say "Klein has Friedman's number" and quite another to work it into a sentence or two.
