This isn't too far from where I live. Sounds funny, but I think the guy deserved it. I take care of sherriff and Cincinnati police dogs where I work, and believe me,you don't mess with these dogs!!!!

If the dog would have somehow escaped and attacked the guy for teasing him,the jackass would have probably tried to sue.

I'm curious what the actual charges are, as "barking at a police dog" isn't a misdemeanor. I'm guessing public intox.

He said "the dog started it", perhaps he misunderstood calling his mother a bitch wasn't meant as an insult. :laugh2:

Seriously though, the fact it was a dog doesn't matter; just walk away, situation resolved.

On the surface, it does sound hard to believe that you could be brought to jail for that but you have a very good point. If that dog would have broken out of it's enclosure he may have killed the drunk idiot and then both the dog and his handler along with the police department and the city and probably the original trainer of the dog would have all been sued. I am around a lot of Belgian Malinios that work with customs, I try not to make eye contact with them.

Here is a short video of heroic K-9s, I really like the one near the end where the guy gets hit from around and then over the car.

We seem to have a consensus here. The guy sounds drunk and thought it amusing to tease a dog that was confined. The dog could have been hurt in the car. Working animals should never be treated as anything other than professionals. There are several working dogs in the schools I sub at, all are gorgeous animals. Just before Christmas one the the students that is losing her sight got a new dog, while students went up and told her how beautiful he is, none of them even attempted to pet him.

wow!! Those dogs are amazing!!

Many of the police dogs that come into work are Malinois. They mean business. We are not allowed to go in the run with them(obviously). The narcotics and bomb sniffers are always sweet as pie though ;)

I had heard that Belgian Malinois were the dogs of choice for the Nazi camps. I sure wouldn't mess with one. The guy needed to be taught a lesson.
