I wonder if PETA will start vandalizing these "green energy" machines. Can you be a member of PETA and Sierra Club at the same time?

The green killer: Scores of protected golden eagles dying after colliding with wind turbines

California's attempts to switch to green energy have inadvertently put the survival of the state’s golden eagles at risk.
Scores of the protected birds have been dying each year after colliding with the blades of about 5,000 wind turbines.
Now the drive for renewable power sources, such as wind and the sun, being promoted by President Obama and state Governor Jerry Brown has raised fears that the number of newborn golden eagles may not be able to keep pace with the number of turbine fatalities.

Not eagle friendly: Scores of Golden Eagles have been dying each year after colliding with the blades of about 5,000 wind turbines
The death count along the ridgelines of the Bay Area’s Altamount Pass Wind Resource Area has averaged 67 a year for three decades.
The 200ft high turbines, which have been operating since the 1980s, lie in the heart of the grassy canyons that are home to one of the highest densities of nesting golden eagles in the US.

‘It would take 167 pairs of local nesting golden eagles to produce enough young to compensate for their mortality rate related to wind energy production,’ field biologist Doug Bell, manager of East Bay Regional Park District's wildlife programme, told the Los Angeles Times. ‘We only have 60 pairs,’ he added.

Wonder which side ELF will join?

its really an easy fix. Switch to verticle wind turbines, there is less noise they cut in at lower speeds regardless of wind direction, and they DONT disrupt the migrating patterns of birds or bats. In fact the death of birds and bats is almost nonexistant. Everyone wants to use these huge wind turbines when we should make ALL new contruction of houses and companies required to install at least one verticle wind turbine and a couple of solar panels on every building. Over time thesse would help our evergy dependence

they would probably counter with that they don't produce as much energy Nuke.

plus the ones that let them build them don't own any of the stocks in vertical.

plus the ones that let them build them don't own any of the stocks in vertical.Your right one on one they dont but you put enough of them out there and they will do a lot more for the environment than a single HUGE horizontal turbine. The point is you use more in lower wind areas and reduce the number of large ones. if everyone has one than it is up to the homeowner to maintain and it helps to supsidize the amount of energy we use.

If each house can produce enough energy for 1/10th of their needs than out of every 11 houses we will have one at zero energy consumption through conventional means. That is a major savings. You would eleiminate 10% of our energy consumption quickly with minimal capital investment.

Also with more purchasing of this type of equipment the better it will get and the CHEAPER it will get. All about supply and demand!!
