The producers may have already given a peek at the politics behind the film. Voltage producer Nicolas Chartier, who has teamed up with Redford’s Wildwood Enterprises production company for the project, said of the movie that:

“This is an edge-of-your-seat thriller about real Americans who stood for their beliefs, thinking they were patriots and defending their country’s ideals against their government.”

The Weathermen grew out of the Revolutionary Youth Movement (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/Revolutionary_Youth_Movement) (RYM) faction of SDS. It took its name from the lyric "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows", from the Bob Dylan (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/Bob_Dylan) song "Subterranean Homesick Blues (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/Subterranean_Homesick_Blues)". You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows was the title of a position paper (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/Position_paper) they distributed at an SDS convention in Chicago on June 18, 1969. This founding document called for a "white fighting force" to be allied with the "Black Liberation Movement" and other radical movements to achieve "the destruction of US imperialism (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/US_imperialism) and achieve a classless (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/Classless) world: world communism (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/Communism)."
The Weathermen largely disintegrated after the United States reached a peace accord in Vietnam in 1973, which saw the general decline of the New Left (http://www.debatepolicy.com/wiki/New_Left).

Some of the group’s former members, interviewed in THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND, cite the murder of Black Panthers Fred Hampton and Mark Clark in a December 1969 Chicago police raid as a turning point. What many believed to be a government-sanctioned killing in an effort to wipe out militant groups such as the Panthers was, for the Weathermen, the final straw.
In 1960, nearly 50 percent of America’s population was under 18 years of age. This surplus of youth set the stage for a widespread revolt against the status quo: against previously upheld structures of racism, sexism and classism, against the violence of the Vietnam War and America’s interventions abroad. At college campuses throughout the country, anger against “the Establishment’s” practices turned to protest, both peaceful and violent.

As the decade continued, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, an organization founded by Martin Luther King, Jr. in order to promote nonviolent protest, grew increasingly militant—as did the mostly white, middle-class “New Left,” which took cues from the civil rights movement, protested policies both home and abroad, and sparked factions like the Weathermen. By the late 1960s, activist movements had also mobilized among Asian Americans, Native Americans, Chicanos and Puerto Ricans, as well as a second wave of activism among women, gay and lesbians and the disabled.

50% of all US citizens at that time were young people.

Yep and I was one of them. And many of them were useful idiots of the soviets. It was the height of the cold war and the soviets were using any means necessary to undermine this country. Fermenting unrest throughout the world was their primary weapon of the time.

Most of those idiots didn't even realize they were being financed by the soviets.

The Weather Underground was not financed by Soviets. You must have been smoking too much weed.

Never smoked it. They were financed through the American communist party and other affiliated organizations. They also financed themselves through bank robberies. They were thieves and murderers, not hero's or patriots.

Did you just cite conservapedia?

If the site is so laughable - how about discredit what is on the page he quoted and all of the links at the bottom? Or is it easier to just laugh than discredit what is written?
