These fruitcakes seem to think they did the lobsters a favor by dumping them into the sea. But all they really did, was expand the market for lobsters, and transfer money from their own pockets to a wholesaler's pocket.

Good job, whackos! :D

Have such people EVER run a project that produced the results they wanted to produce?

Released lobsters retaken, group says
Caught at site of Buddhist ritual

Talk about bad karma.

On Thursday, a group of Buddhists traveled to Gloucester and purchased 534 lobsters, about 600 pounds worth, from a wholesaler and dumped them back into the sea in a prayer ceremony in which the crustaceans’ bands were cut and blessed water was sprayed on them.

Freedom. But it may have been short-lived.

Yesterday, lobstermen from the fishing vessel Degelyse said they had traveled to the site of the ceremony, laid their traps, and hauled up exactly 534 lobsters, according to a local blog, Goodmorninggloucester.org.

And then they brought their haul right back to market.

“It’s really not meant as a slight toward Buddhism at all,’’ said Joe Ciaramitaro, who runs the blog that broke the story and co-owns Captain Joe and Sons Dock, where the boat and several others offload their catch. He also runs Captain Joe and Sons Wholesale Lobster Co. in Gloucester. “We’re just having fun.’’

“Even if they get captured again, they’ve had a longer life,’’ Wendy Cook, who helped lead the ceremony, told Reuters.

In a video on Ciaramitaro’s blog, the lobstermen joke that the Buddhists are welcome to re-purchase the lobsters and release them again.

Cook did not return calls seeking comment yesterday.

This psychotic movent PETA by a moral jurisdiction deserves to be revoked of their tax exempt status. Why? PETA contributed donations for two dangerous terrorist movements Animal Liberation Front(ALF) and Earth Liberation Front(ELF)We all know the terrible acts of those two militant organizations.

ELF burned down a half dozen half-built new houses near where I live several years ago.

I haven't seen any linkage between these lobster nutcases and PETA, though, other than similarity in agendas. The lobster loons seem to have become stupid all by themselves.

I hear the ones that had a slight taste of freedom followed by the sting of recapture are even more delicious. Or their tiny little brains have no comprehension of the events that took place.

Reminds me of a sadder but no less true episode from many years ago. But this one wasn't about lobsters. It was about human slaves, and the modern-day trade in them in Africa.

A third-grade teacher, named Mrs. Vogel I believe, found documentation of human slave trading going on in the present day in the Sudan, in Africa. A slave trader would contact a warlike tribe and get them to atack fellow tribes. As was the tradition of the area, the victors would capture the losers and enslave them, The trader would then buy the slaves and sell them to other tribes in other areas.

Mrs. Vogel got her third-grade class going on a humanitarian project: They collected money, and made arragements to actually buy some of these slaves from that trader and others in the area. Then they would set the slaves free, returning them to decent human dignity. They were very excited about the wonderful thing they were doing: Who could possibly oppose freeing slaves?

The ultimate result?

The slave traders, and tribal warlords, realized they had a new, wealthy market. So they planned and carried out many more wars and slave raids than they had originally planned, killing off many surrounding tribes and taking the survivors into slavery, to sell them. And naturally, the prices went up as they anticipated the increasing demand.

So Mrs. Vogel's humanitarian project resulted in the deaths and enslavement of many more people in Africa, than there would have been had she done nothing. The blame, of course, falls directly on the slave traders and warlords. But does that blame matter, to the newly enslaved and the dead?

The moral is (if such a horrendous story can be said to have a moral at all): Make sure your plans will actually accomplish what you intend, and not have disastrous unintended consequences.

These monks were celebrating the anniversary of Buddha's first sermon by turning some lobsters free, even if only for a short period. Doing acts like this on the Wheel Turning Day they believe earns them extra Karma. Who can't use some good Karma? Looks like some people on this board need some good Karma rather than the bad "Juju" they carry.

Buddhists believe in karma. The Buddha said:

“All living beings have actions (Karma) as their own, their inheritance, their congenital cause, their kinsman, their refuge. It is Karma that differentiates beings into low and high states.”

This past weekend I added to my karma by letting the two 8oz. lobster tails in my freezer live a little longer by grilling sea scallops along with our Demonico's instead... Hmmm, good!

When I go out for lobster it's the Marblehead Grille & Chowder House or Youll's Oyster House!
