Chloe , I for one thing it's commendable that you try to make even the most vile, disgusting, pathetic , wormiest posters feel like they are part of the club so to speak.

I imagine you as the type of woman who would pick up the nastiest, most disgusting , dirtiest, mange ridden cat off the side of the road and bring it home and try to make nice with it. Nothing wrong with that, just make sure it doesn't scratch you and give you some of its diseases.

I'm not trying to ruffle your feathers. I'm just saying if you're going to pick a cool, imaginary car, the Ferrari you chose was a medicocre "supercar" at best. Much better than almost all lowbrow sportscars, but by no means the equal of even it's successor or many contemporaries.

Hey, that's a debate topic! Let's debate the quality of the so-so Ferrari you pretended to own!

Quality? yes, dependability, no.

I was once at a friends house in the malibu hills and his neighbor, the founder of Baja Fresh, got his 355 spyder stuck in a wash which crossed the road. We pulled it out with my friend's corvette. I wish I'd of taken a picture, it was a funny sight. It'd be like street racing rock crawlers.

Oh, well that's part of their charm . Actually all the newer exotics have pretty good dependability though.

My Step dad collects cars, he has a lot of Mustangs, and old classic cars to restore, and he is now learning how to build hot rods.

I don't know anything about cars, but when I go to the car shows with my stepdad I point and say I like that one, over the years I have learned that what I like are Bentleys and Rolls Royces but only old classic ones.

J.T

Actually, for the cultural anthropologists among you, I came/come from a hugging culture. Where I come from, the norms are basically this for non-formal encounters:
-When two female acquaintances or a male and a female acquaintance meet, hugs are usually exchanged

-With two males, it takes the form of a quick embrace. This, however, is generally only the case among close friends. Less familiar acquaintances generally make no physical contact.

The whole breaking-of-bread thing is also strongly in effect 'round these parts. You can judge pretty quickly whether or not someone is welcome by whether or not others will eat/drink after them. Among acquaintances, eating/drinking after others is generally not considered a big deal, though it's not uncommon for everyone to refuse to touch food 'contaminated' by someone unknown or unwelcome. Inviting someone to join in eating is a common form of welcome or an offering of peace. Attempting to join a group that is eating without being invited is considered offensive and taboo and is likely to result in alienation. Of course, failure to reciprocate and offer to others when you have food/drink is considered extremely rude and is a fast way to lose one's social capital. This probably has something to do with the fact that many of us were homeless at various points (as is still the case with many of those who congregate today in some of the old hangouts- people seem to cycle in and out), which meant that such small displays held quite a bit of symbolic value and the entire culture was somewhat collectivist in this regard (though personal property is sacrosanct and few things are considered as terrible an offense as theft or the mooching).

Oh, well that's part of their charm . Actually all the newer exotics have pretty good dependability though.

Of course by newer , you mean less than 10000 miles. then its time to buy a new clutch, brakes, and other consumables. I mean, everything is dependable if you maintain it properly. I few years ago I looked into a Maserati. They're affordable after their warranties expire, about $40-60K. Went so far as to test drive one. Started talking about maintenance; the guy was very honest and said I should expect to spend about a thousand a month, depending on mileage, to keep them running properly. but ~$1 per mile to maintain. i decided a boat was a better place to sink $1000/mo, but my wife thought a bigger house was better. Now our extra money goes into furnishing the larger house.
