I've met this guy before. I've been to this hair salon. My husband and I know the owner. This is beyond fucked up.
Another notch for us gun control people, though. In Obama's second term, it is going to go down. You screwed up gun nuts are going to take it up the butt. Or perhaps one of your own family will need to buy it first. That would be entertaining, right?

heard about that. Any idea why he did it?

Makes me worried about my wife working at a hair salon now. I know its not likely but still not something i want to be thinking about.

Way to find the silver lining...never mind the tragedy. How about a probate court system that requires a man, known as a "devoted father", to get tied up in legal hassles since 2007; no doubt enduring untold amounts of fees to have shared custody of his son. Perhaps you should look at what drives such a man to commit such crimes, before looking at this as an opportunity to expand the very system which inspires people to commit such acts.

And having people 'take it up the butt'--- is that supposed to be funny-- violating personal rights is a joke to you. That's disgusting gabs. Opining such does little to assuage the anger of 'gun nuts'-- quite the opposite, it inspires them; perhaps creating more of them; that is a form of entertainment to you? You'll understand why i don't rush to buy tickets to such an affair.

Gabby was going to "inform" us of that the few elected R's in the CA State House and Senate blocked another "common sense" gun law that would have made it illegal for a fat guy with man boobs to buy a gun

Gabby's ridiculous anti-gun rant aside:
I am puzzled by the motivation in this tragedy. We have a guy who goes into a hair salon where his ex-wife works and starts killing not only everyone inside, but he also shoots another man outside in the parking lot. All we know so far is that the guy has been in a nasty custody battle with the ex-wife. Usually a guy in his state will go straight for the ex-wife but why the indiscriminate killing of others who are also probably parents themselves? Something isn't adding up yet for me.

Maybe its Operation Fat and Flabby.

Seriously though, I can't really imagine what goes through someone's mind during a murderous rampage-- one has most likely rejected common sense at that point. More surprising to me is he was arrested without incident.

A lot of what's said is what's not said; you know what i mean-- no comment on type or number of weapons, so I'm guessing he didn't use an assault rifle(which CA has a ban against). The gun-control peeps hate to admit their laws don't actually prevent gun crimes from being committed-- preferring, rather, to say more gun control is therefore necessary. CA has a high-cap mag ban too. Just waiting to see if they hail this as a 'success', as he stopped, I'm guessing, when his mag well ran dry.

As for others killed, I would imagine he assimilated the support she received, from coworkers, her boss, even clients, into a conspiracy against him. They mentioned it being a small community, maybe he knew the person outside.

Yep yep, no doubt if only the 2nd Amendment were repealed. I'm sure that people would stop losing their minds and killing other people.

Or here's an idea , shut up you dumb bitch.

Usually a guy in his state will go straight for the ex-wife but why the indiscriminate killing of others who are also probably parents themselves? Something isn't adding up yet for me.

Occasionally you find someone who simply has a screw loose somewhere. He can live a fairly normal life for years, until something sets him off. Then the crazy insane behavior starts.

Silly part is when people gather afterward and start looking at the thing that set him off, as though that had anything to do with him having a screw loose in the first place. And they start wondering if, had that thing that set him off been banned, could the crime have been prevented.

It's a lot like the dopes who think, if we treat militant Islamic radical murderers nicely, they'll stop being murderers.

NEWS FLASH.... the way we treat them, has nothing to do with how they treat us. If we eliminate today's reason for them to start shooting, they'll just find some other excuse tomorrow, nor mext month, and do it anyway.

Same deal with this hair-salon shooter. He shot nine people, instead of just his ex-wife, because he was CRAZY. There is no more reason than that. Sure, maybe something about his rough marital situation may have set him off. But if it hadn't, maybe next week or next year he'd get a speeding ticket, and THEN go home, load up his guns, and head to the salon, or to a grocery store, or someplace else, and kill a bunch of innocent people anyway.

It's not the marital situation (or the speeding ticket or whatever) that made him kill eight people. It was being BAT-SHIT CRAZY that made him kill eight people.

Was there anything we could have done to prevent it?

No.

Most people who have marital situations as rough (or rougher) than his, don't kill eight people. But an occasional person is BAT-SHIT CRAZY, and when triggered, he does. And he often looks and acts fairly normal before then.

No, there's nothing we can do beforehand.

Anybody disagree?

Thunderknuckles

I'm not sold on him being crazy just yet. I think there is more to it than just that. I could be wrong. We shall see what the investigation uncovers.

I'm not sold on him being crazy just yet. I think there is more to it than just that. I could be wrong. We shall see what the investigation uncovers.

As I said, most people who have rough marital situation, don't kill seven or eight innocent people. In a really rough situation, someone might kill the ex-spouse. I'm not justifying that, of course, it's still premeditated murder, one of the most horrible of crimes, and deserves the harshest penalty. My point is, though, that person could do that without being completely, permanently crazy. The extreme emotional stress that sometimes hits us, could possibly account for it, horribly wrong though it is.

But then killing everybody else in the room, simply who happened to be standing around? I cannot think of ANY reason for that, besides being BAT-SHIT CRAZY. The emotional stress of the moment, doesn't NEARLY cover it.

If you can come up with any other explanation for deliberately and methodically killing everybody who happened to be there, I'd like to hear it.

Thunderknuckles
10-13-2011, 12:20 PM
Admittedly, I don't have another explanation. I'm running on intuition is all. Something just seems off to me about him shooting up the joint cause he was bat-shit crazy in this case. You could very well be 100% correct however.

If someone had had a gun in the shop there may have been fewer innocents injuried.
All due respect to the victims, and the shooters family. The Kid will have terrible memories of Dad now.
but , forgive me beforehand for this one, A gun wielding thief or angry person is not completely unstoppable even for those unarmed.

There are no mitigating circumstances here. If you open fire on a group of people for ANY reason, you got a screw loose. PERIOD. I hear what you're saying, but it doesn't change the fact that there is something wrong when someone thinks that killing a bunch of people is a reasonable response to whatever.

You have 20 minutes after your post to edit said post. After that you would need to make an additional post. This has been the case for years now. It's quite easy to either edit within the appropriate time frame, or just make an additional post - which you did with the quoted post here. Instead of just adding what you needed, you chose to whine instead. Tough shit.

Really? All this proves is that you gun control people are stupid. Why is it that wherever there is the most gun control, there is also the most victims per mass shootings? Let's see how this works ... law-abiding citizens are disarmed ... criminal STILL has gun ... criminal gets to shoot more defenseless law abiding citizens because dumbass gun control people can't figure out it isn't the guns killing people. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

You lefties are just beyond stupid that you can't figure out the simple math. So busy in your own little dreamworld. If we outlaw guns, the crooks won't have them anymore. Right. That's about as sensible as you still supporting that dolt loser of a President you voted for.

Now, somehow the gun violence is incredibly high in DC, NY, and CA, while being relatively low in place such as TX, AZ, and VA. What's the difference? Oh yeah, the criminals have to pause to ask themselves if A) The person is armed, B) With what, and C) Will they shoot me?

As well, let's look at London, where they stripped away guns completely. gun violence skyrocketed, but then, so did stabbings.

Crazy murderers are going to go crazy and murder people. The methodology is a semantic argument at best.

Here the history on this nut

The ex-wife of the man suspected of killing eight people in a shooting rampage at a hair salon claimed in court papers filed this year that he was mentally unstable and had threatened to kill himself or someone else at least once.
Michelle Fournier Dekraai made the allegations in May in a filing related to her long-running, bitter custody battle with Scott Dekraai over their 7-year-old son.

There was no sign that she had filed a restraining order, but a relative of Scott Dekraai said Michelle told her that he had walked into the Meritage Salon as recently as two months ago and threatened to kill Michelle and her co-workers.

Police say Scott Dekraai opened fire Wednesday afternoon in the salon, where his ex-wife worked, and was arrested soon after. On Tuesday he had been in court for a hearing related to the custody dispute.

Police have not released information about the victims and it‘s unclear if Dekraai’s ex-wife is among them, but witnesses say she was at the salon when the gunman barged in and began shooting.

The couple divorced in 2007, and Scott Dekraai remarried, but the battle over their son continued to rage. Michelle Fournier Dekraai wrote in the court papers that her ex-husband was “almost manic when it comes to demanding absolute right to control our son and make unilateral decisions.”

The guy is also a former marine and was declared a local hero after trying to save the life of a co-worker during a tragic tug boat accident that left him permanently disabled. By all prior accounts, this guy was a model American. Then, out of nowhere he commits the most heinous crime in Orange County history. Again, I don't think he was crazy. Something flipped this guy's switch and he lost it real bad.

In any case, I'm not trying to defend this guy. He deserves whatever is coming to him, and then some, for what he did.

From everything I've seen, the questions about who's jacked up might want to be directed at his wife. Flipped a switch? Try to take my kids. I'm not going to back up all his collateral damage, but I DO agree ... a switch got flipped and I have to wonder just how "innocent" "mommy" is.
