A great man, a great American who helped our country move forward away from racism an issue that has dogged the soul and life of the nation from it's beginning. Which is a direct contradiction to the christian principals of human equality the country was founded upon.

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth125901.html)

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth297520.html)

I just want to do God's will. And he's allowed me to go to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land! I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth162496.html)

I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth297516.html)

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth107470.html)

I submit that an individual who breaks the law that conscience tells him is unjust and willingly accepts the penalty by staying in jail to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the very highest respect for law.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth297513.html)

I submit to you that if a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth143180.html)

I want to be the white man's brother, not his brother-in-law.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth115050.html)

If physical death is the price that I must pay to free my white brothers and sisters from a permanent death of the spirit, then nothing can be more redemptive.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth115063.html)

Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies - or else? The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth142097.html)

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth124474.html)

History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth133707.html)

Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth164280.html)

Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth125485.html)

I am not interested in power for power's sake, but I'm interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth141041.html)

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth115064.html)

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/martinluth115057.html)

Unfortunately, there's been little progress, if any, since. From either side.

Martin Luther King would have appreciated my picture. Since he was known to love pussy, black or white.

Anyone who forwards this post to Jesse Jackson dies a painful death.

Anybody heard about the drama concerning a statue in DC containing a quote of MLK's which was modified?

At issue? A quotation on the side of the 30-foot granite statue of the slain civil rights leader. It reads, "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness."The paraphrase comes from a sermon King gave two months before his assassination. In the sermon, he was speculating on how he might be eulogized.
The actual quote is: "Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness."

Apparently, the quote change was ordered whilst under construction IN CHINA.

Honestly, I don't think the change really changed the meaning; but changing a quote about justice, peace and righteousness on a piece of national historic significance, to accommodate the design constraints of Chinese contractors-- the irony is just too great. Apparently, a change back is in the works.
