View Full Version : The Party of Family Values?

I've heard for years that the republican party considers themselves to be The Party of Family Values. And for years, I've heard right wingers say that democrats are the party of sleeze, because of, no doubt, Clinton's mistakes with Monica Lewinsky... but... what the right always forgets is that even though what Bill did was wrong in the eyes of the Lord, it was NOT illegal.
So this thread will be one where I and others will show you that republicans are not just as sleezy as you think the democrats are... they are worse...
I'm going to start with Neal Horsely... a republican anti-abortionist from down in Georgia... perhaps our southern members will be able to confirm or deny the allegations Neal makes during this interview on Fox Radio...
Neal Horsely Finds Love (http://www.newshounds.us/2005/05/06/bizarre_sex_habits_of_the_extreme_rightwing.php)
Last night, anti-abortion extremist Neal Horsley was a guest on The Alan Colmes Show, a FOX News radio program. The topic was an interesting one - whether or not an internet service provider should allow Horsley to post the names of abortion doctors on his website. Horsley does that as a way of targeting them and one doctor has been killed. In the course of the interview, however, Colmes asked Horsley about his background, including a statement that he had admitted to engaging in homosexual and bestiality sex.
At first, Horsley laughed and said, "Just because it's printed in the media, people jump to believe it."
"Is it true?" Colmes asked.
"Hey, Alan, if you want to accuse me of having sex when I was a fool, I did everything that crossed my mind that looked like I..."
AC: "You had sex with animals?"
NH: "Absolutely. I was a fool. When you grow up on a farm in Georgia, your first girlfriend is a mule."
AC: "I'm not so sure that that is so."
NH: "You didn't grow up on a farm in Georgia, did you?"
AC: "Are you suggesting that everybody who grows up on a farm in Georgia has a mule as a girlfriend?"
NH: It has historically been the case. You people are so far removed from the reality... Welcome to domestic life on the farm..."
Colmes said he thought there were a lot of people in the audience who grew up on farms, are living on farms now, raising kids on farms and "and I don't think they are dating Elsie right now. You know what I'm saying?"
Horsley said, "You experiment with anything that moves when you are growing up sexually. You're naive. You know better than that... If it's warm and it's damp and it vibrates you might in fact have sex with it."

Giordano Receives 37-Year Prison Sentence
Giordano Could Have Faced Life In Prison
June 13, 2003
(http://www.nbc30.com/news/2268479/detail.html?topstories&id=56414,00.html)
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Philip Giordano, the former Waterbury mayor convicted of violating the civil rights of two girls he sexually abused, has been sentenced Friday morning.
..snip
"This case is the worst I have ever seen," said U.S. District Judge Alan Nevas in passing sentence. "Your conduct is the worst I have ever seen. I've seen drug dealers, murderers. What you did is indescribable."
...snip
"Most defendants have something to say, if nothing more than to turn and look at your mother and your sister and say, 'I'm sorry.'"
Nevas said Giordano had been "preying on two small, innocent children."
"They knew nothing. You, sir, are a sexual predator."
Giordano also was convicted in March of conspiring with a prostitute, who is the mother of one of the girls and an aunt of the other. Jurors convicted him on 14 of 15 counts of using an interstate device -- a cell phone -- to arrange the meetings with the girls.
Prosecutors said that Giordano used his cellular phone -- an interstate device -- to set up liaisons with the children and a convicted prostitute, Guitana Jones. Jones pleaded guilty to federal charges and testified at Giordano's federal trial.

If it bothers you so badly, I'd be willing to stipulate that there are politicians ACROSS BOARD who have values that are just barely better than a common pickpocket. Having "family values" does not mean anyone is perfect nor does it declare all the oppostion to be satan. It's simply a standard that people feel strongly about and strive to maintain rather than demolish.

For one remember Democratic Governor James E. McGreevey, while in office and married was sneaking off to have affairs in rent by the hour motel rooms with other men? Also accused of sexually harassing other men, then trying to buy their silence. I guess you will have an excuse for this. Truth is there is no excuse. He brought shame to his state, party, family and friends. He has also done irreversable damage to his ex-wife and kids for his twisted affairs.

Former SD Legislator Arrested On Sex Charges
(http://www.keloland.com/NewsDetail6162.cfm?Id=0,57158)
A former South Dakota lawmaker is accused of molesting his own foster children and legislative pages.
Ted Klaudt, 49, a Republican rancher from Walker, faces a long list of charges: eight counts of rape, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of witness tampering, sexual contact with a person under 16, and stalking.
Court documents mention five possible victims. Three were foster children between the ages of 15 and 19 who lived with Klaudt's family. One is a cousin of one of those girls, and the fifth is a friend of Klaudt's daughter.
In the most disturbing accusation, the girls say Klaudt had them convinced they could earn up to $20,000 by donating their eggs to a fertility clinic. And even though he has no medical training, the girls say Klaudt did all the supposed "exams" and "procedures" himself.

Former Clarkfield mayor sentenced on molestation charges
(http://www.wkbt.com/global/story.asp?s=4075665&ClientType=Print)
GRANITE FALLS, Minn. A former mayor of Clarkfield has been sentenced on charges that he molested two boys from 1997 to 2003.
Thirty-six-year-old Jeffrey Kyle Randall of Clarkfield was sentenced yesterday to 275 days in jail and six years of probation. He'll also have to register as a sex offender, and undergo evaluation and treatment.
Randall entered an Alford plea last month to two counts of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct, both gross misdemeanors.
A criminal complaint says Randall molested two boys -- ages ten and 12 -- during a six-year period.
He was mayor of Clarkfield from 1998 to the fall of 2004. In 2002, he ran as a Republican in an unsuccessful bid for state representative.

Exclusive: The Sexually Explicit Internet Messages That Led to Fla. Rep. Foley's Resignation
September 29, 2006 5:59 PM
Brian Ross, Rhonda Schwartz & Maddy Sauer Report:
Florida Rep. Mark Foley's resignation came just hours after ABC News questioned the congressman about a series of sexually explicit instant messages involving congressional pages, high school students who are under 18 years of age.
In Congress, Rep. Foley (R-FL) was part of the Republican leadership and the chairman of the House caucus on missing and exploited children.
He crusaded for tough laws against those who used the Internet for sexual exploitation of children.
"They're sick people; they need mental health counseling," Foley said.
But, according to several former congressional pages, the congressman used the Internet to engage in sexually explicit exchanges.

Gingrich Admits to Extramarital Affair
Friday March 9, 2007 9:01 PM
By BEN EVANS (http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-6469690,00.html)
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich acknowledged he was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.
``The honest answer is yes,'' Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. ``There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards.''
Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity.

Stripey what is so cleverly mendastic about labeling one's own party the party of values is that the label doesn't even have a meaning.
It is just an empty phrase that people fill in with their own values.
Like if i called the libertarians the party of great ideas every Libertarian would construe that to mean that the party was built around everything that they consider a great idea.
It allows each citizen to imagine the party is in the mold of their own belief system.
The other sinister element is that it is pure BS. As you are so convincingly demonstrating.

The term "family values" is nothing more than the rights ability to master cognitive science.
Starting in the early 80's, after 20 years of liberal dominance in the political spectrum, right-wing think tanks started coming up with extremely generalized and broad terms to describe "what they stand for". "Family Values" is one of them. When people think "Family" and "Values" they make a connection inside their head that clicks off a positive reaction. Its called framing.
The same goes with "tax relief".
What do you think of when you hear the word "relief"...Relief means good, and a frame of good comes to the mind.
The same idea can be applied to the current day war in Iraq.
In the beginning of the war, not once..and you can search EVERY news source, did George Bush ever say that the war was to "bring freedom".
It was about a "threat" that Saddam had WMD.
So we went in, bombed the shit out the country, killed thousands, and within a year no WMD were ever found.
So then to continue support for the war, they changed the reasoning from "threat" to "freedom".

Wrong. You made the claim. The burden is on YOU to defend it. "5000 years of tradition" just doesn't cut it; heck, the oppression of women was a centuries-long "tradition," but that didn't make it right.

So what, Nevada? At least 70% of American couples will have an extra-marital affair. It's also entirely true that Kennedy did try to get Kopeckne out of the car. If it was submerged to any degree the amount of strength necessary to open the car door may have been beyond Kennedy's ability.
And I take it you've forgotten what a hoo-rah the Republicans and religious conservatives made over Clinton getting a blow job. You conservatives sure do sing a different tune when it's one- or in this case many- of your own that gets caught with their own pants down now, don't ya? Have you no consistency in your ethics and morals?

Of course there are people in both political parties who are less than steller in their personnal lives. Some are down right sick.
Republicans are known for family values because they oppose abortion and gay marriage. Unlike the democrates that are all for abortion on demand.

then by extension .....all democrats get blow jobs from interns in their offices.....smoke cigars that taste like tuna.....and.....drive off bridges drunk and kill their girlfriends......
Here's the point for my right-wing friends who are refusing to see the point of this thread....
Yes, you'll find both Democrats and Republicans who have cheated on their wives.
And yes, you'll find both Democrats and Republicans who have consorted with ladies of the evening.
And yes, you'll find both Democrats and Republicans who have had homosexual relations.
And yes, you'll find both Democrats and Republicans who have buggered little children.
But (and here's the big difference).......
The Democrats never claimed to be anything but womanizing, gay sex-enjoying reprobates, whereas the Republicans held themselves out to the voters as a cut above the Democrats.....purer and more virtuous than those sinful Democrats. The Repubs proclaimed themselves to be "The Party of Family Values," i.e., the Party of Virtue.
So when a Republican cheats on his wife, or is found with a hooker, or locked in the embrace of a gay man......when a Republican buggers a child.......
It's not the same as when a Democrat does it. Hell, we all know the Dems are a bunch of whoremongers and sinners. But Republicans.....
Ahhhhh....that's a different story. When a GOPer does these things, the whole Republican Party is made to look like a bunch of hypocrites.
See the point?

That's why I have been saying lately that pride and self-righteousness always precedes the fall. Amazing, isn't it, how so many "professed" Christians seem to be as perverted- if not more so- than the one's they condemn as being "immoral"? Seems those "Christians" have forgotten the Biblical lesson of logs and splinters- or how every time you go pointing a finger in self-righteous indignation at others you end up having three fingers pointing right back at you.
They (the Righties) have definitely earned their right to what they've been getting lately.

The whole Kenneth Starr investigation turned out to be a dud.
And lying about a bj is hardly worth the bruhahaha the GOP clavern have invested the event with.
This thread shows the 6000 lb gorilla in the same room.
NOPE for most of us it was the lying under oath that was the WHOLE problem. He needed to man up and admit that he had "sexual relations with her" instead of LYING and denying he had done anything.
HE LIED TO THE CONGRESSIONAL COMMITEE UNDER OATH, THAT MY DEAR, IS PURGERY.

Would you agree that it might be time for Bush and his team to "man up" instead of lying and denying that they may have done anything wrong too?
It never ceases to astound me how some people get so hung up about a President lying- out of embarrassment- that they were having an extra-marital affair yet they'll turn a totally deaf ear to a President who ignored or withheld and cherry-picked intelligence to justify an invasion of a nation that has gotten 3,400 of our soldiers killed, tens of thousands more maimed and God knows how many Iraqi's killed.
Shows US where the focus and the priorities of a lot of "Righties" are these days!

Stripey: Instead of trying to show that family values Repubs committed illegal acts, it's quite enough to show that they're a bunch of hypocrites.
And for you Republicans on the board, there's a lesson in all this, which you may or may not have learned....
Don't ride into town on a high horse and proclaim your party represents family values and morality, and imply (or come out and say) that the other party has no morals or family values unless you're absolutely sure that none of your boys has ever cheated on his wife, or molested a little boy, or visited a gay bar looking to make new friends.
