I understand that kids want to do their thing on Spring Break, But 25 agents AND Mexican police? If that much money truly needs to be spent to protect her, her PARENTS should either foot the bill, or be parents and not let her go. This is just too much for such a young girl AND for our tax money.

Malia Obama guarded by 25 Secret Service agents on spring break in MexicoBarack Obama's eldest daughter is spending her springbreak in the historic Mexican city of Oaxaca in the company of 12 friends - and 25 Secret Service agents.

The US President's 13-year-old daughter Malia is staying at a downtown hotel in the city famous for its colonial architecture and well-preserved native American traditions, an official said.

"We are here to block access to the hotel by other people and escort the vehicles that are carrying the visitors to tourism sites," the police official told AFP under the condition of anonymity.

Malia Obama and her friend are guarded by the Secret Service agents as well as Mexican police, the official noted.

The group, which arrived in Oaxaca Saturday, has already visited the architectural zone of Mitla and the tree of El Tule believed to be one thousand years old.

The sightseeing plan also includes visits to Monte Alban known for its archeological research sites and Oaxaca's famous artisan quarters.

I did find a few American sites offering similar information, but I had to dig it up after reading the foreign article first.

I wouldn't mind having 25 agent protecting my daughter on spring break when she's in college.
I'd want them to be kinda old farts and women though.

been happening for a while, free press isn't quite as free as it makes out, some areas seem to be no go places. Off limits or verboten. heard one reporter, Kristina Borjesson (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1?_encoding=UTF8&sort=relevancerank&search-alias=books&ie=UTF8&field-author=Kristina%20Borjesson) , sums it by saying something like.

"you don't get to high levels in a journalistic career at places national papers or become editors there without knowing where the land mines are news wise. It's not something that your told or written in a manual you just see how other reporters or there stories are treated and you get the 6th sense for how far to take certain issues and where not to go."

Let's see. A 13 year old girl and 12 of her friends in Mexico without parental supervision. They are gonna need a lot more agents!

News stories are disappearing from websites and some boards/chat rooms are shutting down the discussions:

"Leave the kids alone" seems to be one of the factors. However, I would think it makes it harder to protect her if the whole world knows.

Of course, it could just be that the administration is embarrassed about the amount of taxpayer monies being spent on spring break.

Don't forget, no POTUS has received more death threats than Obama. Just look at the post the ass made above as an example of the type of people out there!

A coworkers son is on the SS detail for a former POTUS and former First Lady. The number permanant of agents assigned to this couple is pretty damn high and goes higher when they or he or she travels. I doubt most people realize high high the number of agents assigned to First & former First Families is on a daily basis let alone the costs.

Wow, Rev, this is one of the best finds ever! Someone with the nerve to finally put on record what we all have suspected.

I just think it's interesting that the President's daughter is in Mexico after the dire warnings issued to all other Spring Break participants about the dangers of vacationing in Mexico.

Send her to Hawaii instead.

Also, since when do 13 year old get to go off on Spring Break without parents?

Oh whatever, my comments in NOWAY reflected a desire to do harm to him or his family.

I wonder what the 99%ers at the Occupy camps think about this 1%er using tax payers resources to fund their vacation security?
