That's the headline that Drudge hints at.. But I'm no expert. I really don't like the sound of all of this though. Can anyone else make better sense of this?

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (50 U.S.C. App. 2061 et seq.), and section 301 of title 3, United States Code, and as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

PART I - PURPOSE, POLICY, AND IMPLEMENTATION

Section 101. Purpose. This order delegates authorities and addresses national defense resource policies and programs under the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (the "Act").

Sec. 102. Policy. The United States must have an industrial and technological base capable of meeting national defense requirements and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its national defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency. The domestic industrial and technological base is the foundation for national defense preparedness. The authorities provided in the Act shall be used to strengthen this base and to ensure it is capable of responding to the national defense needs of the United States.

And an article from WND...

The White House’s late-week release of an executive order has sent the online community into an uproar, worried that President Obama had secretly provided himself means to institute martial law in America.

In the common practice of dumping government documents on a Friday afternoon, just as the news cycle is wrapping up for the week – a move critics say allows the administration to avoid widespread coverage of embarrassing actions – the White House released an executive order on “National Defense Resources Preparedness.”

Filled with language about “government-owned equipment” and a “defense executive reserve,” among other vague statements, rumors began to spread that the executive order expanded the president’s power to do everything from seizing whole industries to drafting private armies.

A Canada Free Press article titled “Obama Executive Order: Peacetime Martial Law!” spread concerns of gasoline ration cards; while an Examiner article declared the order would “nationalize everything” and “allow for a civilian draft.” Facebook, email and Twitter were suddenly abuzz, and even the extremely popular Drudge Report posted a link to the White House release under the title “Martial Law? Obama Issues Executive Order.”

But are the cries of martial law and expanding executive power justified?

No, says William A. Jacobson, associate clinical professor at Cornell Law School.

“If someone wants to make the argument that this is an expansion of presidential powers, then do so based on actual language,” warns Jacobson. “There is enough that Obama actually does wrong without creating claims which do not hold up to scrutiny.”

I have said it many times. Martial law is coming. He's getting his ducks in a row. His goons aren't called occupiers for nothing. Hezbo and leftist goons will start stirring things up and he will move his forces in to quell the situation. It's for the security of the country and everyones well being. Don't look for similarities to Hitler, look for similarities to Mussolini. Those are the methods being used.

tin foil hat much, no president is going to declare martial law except in the most extreme emergency. The people and big business wouldn't stand for it, bad for the economy.

What exactly constitutes an "extreme emergency" in your book LN?? Did you read the executive order or are you just talking out your ass... It gives him and his APPOINTED" committee unlimited power over EVERYTHING for domestic and defensive purposes!!!

Next time you wish to comment on something at least take the time to READ it first!!!!

He is not outright declaring martial law, but they, the presidents, all of them, have allowed or perpetuated a slowly but surely creeping walk towards martial law, not calling it martial law, but in practice it is.
Just think about the imminent domain decision recently.
they have all but banned smoking
health care is now in their hands
thru taxation, feds determine alot that happens in our personal lives, like, if they want more of our kids going to college, they make a tax break for it, if they want our savings accounts bolstered, they give a tax break for it, if they want more home ownership, more kids, they control the masses.

Plus the agencies, EPA, etc etc

Even though GB says re-enabling the draft, the order refers to Selective Service...not draft. I think it is not just selective service for military purposes. I think they will be able to use the selective service to draft people into any government job they choose.

Jumping topics, Glenn revealed the Obama administration, “quietly and without reason,“ announced the proposal of an executive ordered titled ”National Defense Resources Preparedness.“ The order renews and updates an order from 1950 that gives the president some ”pretty eye-popping powers,” according to Glenn.Among them are:

[*=left]The power to take control of all civil energy supplies (including oil and gas)
[*=left]Control over civil transportation
[*=left]Re-enabling the draft

Glenn recoiled at the fact that the president can even exercise the order in peacetime and believes the only logical explanation for the administration’s push is in its “anticipation of an imminent disruption” to the flow of oil to America. He cautioned that Iran is already threatening to shut down the Straights of Hormuz pending an Israeli attack and that up to 40% of the world’s oil travels through those very straights.Glenn ceded that while the updated order has many of the same powers as it did previously, America has never before had a president or administration “so hell bent on destroying” what we believe America to be and to “reshaping it so closely to what their hearts desire.”

Bush wasn't try to turn America into a socialist nation. No, the accusation as I recall was a Nazi one, against Bush. That he would use the terrorist attacks to declare martial law rather than step down, all that. Alex Jones and his WND really like to push this conspiracy nonsense.

Not just hearing it from WND, but I don't disagree that the law has been around for decades and everyone who doesn't like their president thinks it will be used to incur martial law. And, in fact, that is what it is for ... to give the government the right to confiscate and draft. Whether it will be needed during this presidency remains to be seen.

Ok, if it is paranoid nonsense... let me ask you this: why does it need to be updated? Why is the administration so eager to update and get it on the books now? It is not the same, exact law that Clinton put in place. And, if Bush had decided he wanted to update it during his presidency I would have been leery also.

The executive order gives the homeland security secretary authority to issue guidance to other department heads to establish and activate a National Defense Executive Reserve (NDER) composed of experts in the private and public sector -- though not full-time federal employees -- to fill executive positions in the federal government in the event of a national defense emergency. That includes employing consultants or other experts without compensation. The labor secretary can also begin training workers to help address national defense requirements.

I don't believe the previous one had the NDER, and it also didn't reactivate Selective Service, as this one does.

He's putting his ducks in a row. Watch iran and what happens there. Hezbo is the key. When it really comes down to it? He has Israel to take care of Iran. Problem is, the conflagration that might result, possibly a nuclear exchange in retaliation that wipes out Israel, that also inspires India and Pakistan to settle their millenia-old disputes the same way. That's preferable I think, to US military involvement in Iran. Neither is a very good scenario. Pick your poison.

This just seems like maintenance to former paper covers drawn up years ago to make martial law look legal whenever and whoever the prez is who wants to pull it off.

I've posted several new ones that are worst. the NDAA for example, that has been barely commented on here. Bush raiseed the bar with a lot, the patriot act is one, the military commissions act, the John warner Defense appropriation act, the secret continuity-of-government plans, to name a few. All drawn up for our safety, in case of an emergency, whatever that is.

Green is the new red often.

Ds and Rs both have spotted past on the racism issue. David Duke ran for president for BOTH parties. and was a Louisiana R state rep.

regaurding W, he was a military-industrial-Complex and big banks player. He was for more big gov't and Federal invasion into private lives and didn't give a crap about the bill of rights or the constitution.
Same as Obama.
And Romney and Santorum btw

Exactly! There was all sorts of talk through 2008 that Bush would declare martial law to avoid leaving office. Of course, the ConReps felt it was all nonsense and that no one in their right mind would believe that a president would declare martial law for that purpose.
