Richard Nixon's "enemies list" appalled the country for the simple reason that presidents hold a unique trust. Unlike senators or congressmen, presidents alone represent all Americans. Their powers—to jail, to fine, to bankrupt—are also so vast as to require restraint. Any president who targets a private citizen for his politics is de facto engaged in government intimidation and threats. This is why presidents since Nixon have carefully avoided the practice.

It's not just donors to Romney's campaign. Ted Nugent said something negative about Obama and after Secret Service talked to him and cleared him, he suddenly is being charged with a crime that no one even knew was a crime ... even the judge who he had to appear in front of.

In all fairness Sassy, Ted Nugent deserved a visit by the Secret Service for what he said. As for the charges in Alaska, he unknowingly broke the law and squared it all away.

Yes, I agree about the visit from the SS. The minute I heard what he said I said "uh, oh....you're going to get a visit." I just find it interesting that the black bear charge showed up well after the visit.
