Children of Paralyzed Aghan Veteran Punished for Wearing Pro-Military T-Shirts to School

The family of a paralyzed Afghanistan veteran is going head-to-head with a Texas school district over pro-military t-shirts that apparently landed two their elementary school children in trouble.The shirts, which have the logo of an organization that provides homes and support for wounded veterans, apparently violate Masters Elementary School’s dress code.

Josie Perez-Gorda, the mother of Savannah, a first-grader, and Taylor, a fourth-grader, said that her daughters were wearing shirts from the Homes For Our Troops (http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageServer) organization. The family’s connection to the group is a very personal one.

Her husband, Army Spc. Justin Perez-Gorda, was injured when he encountered a road-side bomb in Afghanistan.

Sisters Violate School’s Dress Code By Wearing Wounded Vet T-Shirt
CONVERSE, Texas (CBS Houston) — Two sisters got in trouble for violating the school’s dress code by wearing a t-shirt honoring their father who was paralyzed in Afghanistan.


Savannah and Taylor Perez-Gorda were called into the Masters Elementary principal’s office and reprimanded for wearing a “Homes for our Troops” shirt – an organization that helps build homes for injured veterans.


Their father, Army Spc. Justin Perez-Gorda, was severely injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan last year.


“I’m paralyzed,” Perez-Gords told KENS-TV. “I have TBI [traumatic brain injury].”



A Judson Independent School District spokeswoman said the girls got in trouble because it wasn’t the first time they violated the school’s dress code by wearing a shirt without a collar.


“We do have a standardized dress code,” spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor told KENS. “We certainly support the military, but we do have to be consistent across the board when it comes to following the dress code.”...




Seems the mom could send a better message with an email to be including with school letter or something to support the project. The kids are bearing the brunt of this.
