Campus-sponsored talk by 'genderqueer' porn star raises eyebrows at Williams CollegeBy Molly Line (http://www.foxnews.com/author/molly-line/index.html)

Colleges and universities have been known to push the envelope when it comes to inviting controversial figures to campuses, and Williams College, a prestigious private institution in western Massachusetts, is the latest -- by inviting a porn star.

The speaker, Jiz Lee, is described in the college calendar advertising the event as "an award-winning genderqueer performer, author, artist and pleasure activist." Friday night, a sample of the performer's work is scheduled to be shown on campus followed by a discussion with students.

Some have been shocked by the graphic description of the porn stars talents.

"For me I think the biggest question right now is a matter of whether the event has academic merit or whether it has social merit," said Marina Bousa, a junior studying anthropology at the college in Williamstown, Mass.

"What I really love about Williams is it's really kind of an exciting place to be. Even though we're in the middle of nowhere, we have these really passionate students who care about what they think and are willing and eager to create events where they can express their views and learn about things that Williamstown doesn't necessarily always have to offer," Bousa said. "I can see why the event would be an exciting opportunity for that, but, on the other hand, I question its academic value."

I've read of a few "porn stars" invited to colleges before. A one time off type of thing, students are free to skip it of course.

Gender queer? And they had Snooki at Rutgers for a HUGE fee. I'm just curious who pays when they have garbage show up for speaking engagements. So long as NONE of the money comes from students or the government, and it's not mandatory, or at a graduation where you have little choice...

Gender queer?

Genderqueer means basically something other than the standard binary gender

For example cases where someone would identify themselves as without gender (agender) or as both a male and female gender (pangender/bigender) or as a fluxing state between two genders (fluid gender) or they may identify with having a gender, but not one defined as either male or female, i.e. a third gender type.

...idk what goes on in these peoples heads, but thats what it means.

I'm sure some of you remember "Career Day" at school where local professionals would come into class and talk to you about their fields and about life in general.
You'd get Policeman, Fireman, Engineers of all sorts, scientists, etc and that was just in K-12.
Now, at our highest levels of education, we get a "Snookie" and a Gender Queer "Pleasure Activist" named Jiz!?
Just another of many reasons why when I look into the eyes of my little kids I say a little prayer for them and silently apologize for world I will leave to them.

I don't care if the students and taxpayers aren't paying the fees, but would still be at a loss as how it would be in anyway beneficial to the students to hear from a gender confused person, Snooki or even Susan Lucci. The standards are changing over the years and the examples we put forth and tell our kids "be like this person" are sad.

It used to be someone like John Glenn, a former president, a famous writer... Now we have them look up to gender confused drunken girls from the Jersey Shore.

The former Presidents, corporate leaders, and well known authors are still there, the occasional non traditional speaker gets more attention from some.

I don't remember if it was forced, I only know that I went because of the human sexuality class. It was real strange having these discussions about sexuality in mixed groups.

I remember that I was shocked by how much men talked about masturbation and "circle jerks" and at the time, women NEVER discussed masturbation. In those days, feminists actually had parties to help women find their clitorises.

Yup, a circle of women holding up mirrors.

Welcome to the age where we pay people like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan to just "show up" somewhere. Sad part is...people will flock to be there when they do. Why? Because they are "popular". Our society has become so very shallow.

now maybe that was her interpretation, but I doubt it. Certainly there's an art to a good blowjob; I just don't think that's academic in nature-- extracurricular perhaps, educational even, but not academic. Your effort is evident, but connect the dots :FAIL

Yes, Jim, open your mind to people all being victims of one form or another.

Note that Jim is essentially okay with the speaker as long as it was voluntary to attend, and wasn't being shoved off on tuition.

For your Information, Jim, it usually isn't included in the tuition. They usually pull money for speakers like this by ticket sales, as well as by concessions, and other such stuff. Even if the speaker is getting paid, it isn't much more than expenses for the appearance, and a hotel stay. They don't really make bank on these things unless it's some like Spielburg, and they usually forgo the money anyways.

Critics of the porn star's visit have questioned the administration's judgment and funding of the event, but Williams College officials say the money is coming from a specific endowment received 20 years ago that focuses on education regarding human sexuality and orientation issues.

If a speaker interests you and has something to say, why would anyone care what they do? I would rather listen to a gender queer porn star than some lying politician or ego-laden celebrity.
When my sister was at USC Film School, she had to do a lot of projects and papers. Rather than redo the same famous cinematic warhorse, my sister went in the opposite direction. She interviewed porn stars and directors and producers of bad movies. My sister had one of the last interviews granted by Russ Meyer (who, at 80 years old, told her she would be really cute if she had tits). .

The whole point of this thread is to make it seem ridiculous that the University had a gay porn star speak to the school. I'm saying the college attended was not reknown for it's liberalism, yet we had gay speakers in our classroom and were encouraged to watch a couple of porn movies as a class assignment.

Please stop misinterpreting my posts to be personal.

They aren't. My point is that it is not unreasonable for a gay porn star to address the academic community.
