Various conventions of the Democrat and Republican parties have been disrupted by protestors, who sometimes even rioted. Every time, the incidents have been planned and carried out by various groups of leftist militants and other such far-left malcontents.
This year, the cities where the Dem and Repub conventions will be held, are trying to forestall such disruptions, by restricting.....
....peaceful, law-abiding gun owners???

Southern Cities Scapegoat Gun Owners
Both political parties are holding this year's conventions in the South--the Republicans in Tampa, Fla., and the Democrats in Charlotte, N.C.--and the Associated Press reports that both cities are looking for ways to ban lawful firearms near the convention sites. Not inside the conventions, mind you. The convention hall and surrounding areas will be inside the Secret Service's security perimeter, and civilians will have to pass through metal detectors to get in.]
But in areas under state jurisdiction, both Florida and North Carolina law permit people with concealed-carry permits to have their guns. Tampa officials are asking Gov. Rick Scott to decree an exception in order "to prevent a potential tragedy," in the words of city councilman Lisa Montelione. "Charlotte officials have yet to publically voice concern," the AP adds, but it likely "will also have to address the issue."
What exactly is the concern here? "In the past 50 years," the AP notes, "political conventions have become a magnet for protesters, and they have sometimes turned ugly":
In 1968, demonstrators tried to disrupt the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Scenes of police clashing with protesters on the streets played on TV screens in living rooms across America. Four years later, anti-war demonstrators disrupted the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach.
More recently, thousands of protesters descended on St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2008, when the city hosted the Republican National Convention. Some demonstrators smashed cars, punctured tires and threw bottles in a confrontation with pepper-spray-wielding police. Hundreds of people were arrested over a few days.
"Everything we are doing is based on something that happened at another convention or another national security event," Tampa City Attorney Jim Shimberg said.
But wait. None of these disruptions involved guns. All of them involved left-wingers--i.e., the kind of people who want the government to take guns away from citizens. And to get a concealed-carry permit in either Florida or North Carolina, you have to have a clean criminal record.
Not only are Tampa (and perhaps Charlotte) officials scapegoating law-abiding citizens for the actions of violent leftists. By disarming the law-abiding, they may be increasing the danger of left-wing violence.
