If you give the liberal nanny state an inch - they will take 150 miles. Now, the nanny state is talking about controling how much popcorn, milk shakes, and milk coffee you can consume. As if they think they have the legal right to do so

Is there any aspect of our life these damn busy bodies will NOT try to control?

The board hand-picked by Mayor Michael Bloomberg that must approve his ban of selling large sugar-filled drinks at restaurants might be looking at other targets.

The New York City Board of Health showed support for limiting sizes of sugary drinks at a Tuesday meeting in Queens. They agreed to start the process to formalize the large-drink ban by agreeing to start a six-week public comment period.

At the meeting, some of the members of board said they should be considering other limits on high-calorie foods.

One member, Bruce Vladeck, thinks limiting the sizes for movie theater popcorn should be considered.
"The popcorn isn't a whole lot better than the soda," Vladeck said.

Another board member thinks milk drinks should fall under the size limits.

"There are certainly milkshakes and milk-coffee beverages that have monstrous amounts of calories," said board member Dr. Joel Forman.

Mayor Bloomberg says the drink rules are an attempt to fight obesity in the city. It would limit food service establishments in the city from serving drinks bigger than 16 ounces but would allow refills.

The New York City Restaurant Association is fighting the proposal and is considering legal action of it goes into effect.

New York City voters oppose 51 - 46 percent Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed ban on the sale of over-sized sugary soft drinks, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

New York City voters oppose 51 - 46 percent Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed ban on the sale of over-sized sugary soft drinks, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

The really scary part of this is that 46% of NYers support this.

Not that they feel they must be stopped from buying Big Gulps themselves, but that *OTHERS* must be stopped.

The state passed a law this week that says 16 year-olds can't use tanning beds.

OK, but this is the same legislature that says it's OK for 13 year-old girls to get abortions without telling their parents.

If their goal is to eliminate obeeity why not just make it illegal to be obese? Some of us can enjoy a 54 oz dr pepper with our jumbo popcorn without getting fat

New York is such a delightful city, Bloomberg is just working at keeping it 'beautiful':

Associated PressNEW YORK — Authorities say a woman was scratched by a rat on a New York City subway train.
The Daily News reports (http://nydn.us/NndQI4 ) that the woman was scratched after getting on a train in Manhattan on Friday morning.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the woman jumped back onto the platform and requested medical attention. She was taken to a nearby hospital.

It's unclear where the rat went after the attack. The train continued on its way after the woman exited
The MTA says it cleans subway cars, station platforms and track areas of debris that may attract rodents. It says riders can help by refraining from eating in the subways and throwing trash in garbage cans.

Bed bugs and booze don’t mix: study
NANCY DILLON
Friday, June 01, 2012

That glass of wine before bedtime could bring relief in more ways than one.

New research suggests bed bugs don’t have much taste for boozy blood and lay fewer eggs when their feedings contain alcohol.

This penchant for a sober meal could mean fewer bites for hosts who imbibe, a New York entomologist now studying at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln found.

“(Bed bugs) need a blood meal to grow and to molt and to reproduce,” Ralph Narain, the University of Nebraska Ph.D. candidate from Suffolk County, told the website

LifesLittleMysteries.com. “And one of their main hosts are humans, and we consume a lot of (alcohol).”

New York liberals will be glad that they can be "pro-choice" but will allow the government to occupy their refrigerator. :dunno:

Well sure...they can trust you to make the right choice about killing babies (even if you are under age). Just not when it comes to choosing diet over regular sodas.

Why are you surprised? These are the same folks who keep re-electing Chuck U Schumer
