There have been some comments about me and certain members, and how it affects traffic here to the site, and how it ends up being about money for me. I have news for those who believe that, I don't make money here, it's a losing effort.

The only ways I have ever made money are on the Google ads you currently see, text links I had accepted in the past & donations from members. I haven't done the text links in a couple of years, and even when I did, they were ridiculously cheap for 6 months at a time. Probably worked out to about $2 per month, per link. Donations have helped pay bills in the past, but I haven't actively sought out any donations in quite some time. The Google ads generally net me anywhere from $5 to $20 per month, on a great month.

The costs are the yearly payment for the domain, generally around $12-15 a year. Hosting fees were $29 per month and my web hosting provider has recently reduced this price to $20 per month. The software is the costly one, which was $180 when I first purchased it, and then you must make a yearly subscription after that to have support and downloads. Then certain 'add on' software, which would be considered 'premium' would also cost at times. Then the recent upgrade to the 4.x series of vBulletin was $175. Then I pay a monthly $7 fee to have backups stored remotely in case of an emergency.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I love this site. I don't mind paying the money in the slightest bit. I think I get my moneys worth simply by enjoying the board. I just don't want any misconceptions out there that I am getting rich off of this, or I am worried about traffic from certain members and activities, as the difference is negligible. So while I say it's a losing effort monetarily speaking, I win anyway just based on it being a small amount versus what I get out of being a member here.

71st and Continental! That was my subway stop for a few years when I lived in Queens. I lived in Cooper Towers on Queens Boulevard, and I forget the cross street. But Austin was right there with all the shops and such. I enjoyed my time there, but WAY too busy of an area for me. Just to go to a convenience store back then I had to risk my life and cross like 46 lanes of traffic! LOL

The board has leaned to the right from day one, but wasn't planned that way. We encourage diversity, contrary to what some might say. Even when I spend money to advertise, admittedly not enough, I try to do so in a manner to attract more from the left. Some come and are scared off. Some come and just disappear. Some just never come. I think the FAR left nutso's prefer an environment where they are protected by the masses of their own kind, not sure. But it's certainly not for a lack of trying to get them here, or because of moderation, as the liberals that do remain here will even admit that they aren't moderated much, if ever at all.

I'm getting older as you know, P, and just when my brain reaches a point to where that memory has faded, you're kind enough to remind me and everyone else! :poke:

And Fwiw, I think the shirt itself was like $15-20, it just cost me like $75 to have a couple of 50 cent stickers melted on! (and I think I bought a lighter for like $9). Remind me to NEVER go to Myrtle Beach unsupervised again!

I can't WAIT to see who had the nerve to mention you making money.

I had a site once that I made some decent money with daily, but it was all based off of advertising, which was a taboo way of doing things. I would spend anywhere from $10-$50 a day in advertising via Myspace users with HUGE amounts of friends, and the return was anywhere from $50-$1000 per day! These were people making simple posts on their pages about my site with a link, but they had anywhere from 50,000 - 200,000+ friends! Then Myspace cracked down on the whole thing, killed the way linking worked, killed some huge accounts, the companies that ran these accounts dried up. It's not something I figured out a way to re-create ever since. And technically what I did back then was a no no. Paying for traffic that in turn clicked on ads and then I made money.

But this site is different. It was never designed to make any money. My only venture into the money side of things was to help offset the fees associated. Some over the years have accused me of allowing critters to remain that were unsavory, solely because of traffic that in turn made me money. No one user makes such a difference. And even if the traffic doubled here overnight, it likely wouldn't make a dent in the money made from the ads.

Let's face it, people come here for a reason, to debate or discuss crap. It's when a user goes to a site LOOKING for something, like sneakers, and then they might click on an ad that appears to have something to do with sneakers that will benefit them. But here, I doubt really anyone even looks at the ads anymore, and some have them blocked entirely. The few clicks I do get I'm betting are from guests.

For $1000, and a LOT of lemon drop shots back then (vodka), and Corona's, I think I was delusional and thought I was going to get a "feel test" somewhere along the line. That's why I was dumb enough to spend a LOT on the $20 lap dances. At least they were up close and personal! :coffee:

I appreciate the way you run this site. No site is perfect and I've been on several that make this site look like liberty heaven in comparison! I wouldnt care if you made a million bucks a day because its free to the members here. Somebody that complained and mentioned any money you may have ever made should just leave and create their own site , get rich and stop complaining. That is if they think it's so easy and so financially beneficial.

It's actually been quite a few over the years. I'm just clarifying for the community, so everyone is aware that any and all decisions here are certainly not based on any perceived income. There are a lot of factors that will go into how much traffic the site receives, but WHO posts is not one of them. The notion that I would let someone or anyone get away with anything because they generate traffic is absurd, and naive, as that's simply not how the traffic game works.

Do you mean those that I have collected from here? I'd die of starvation, unless pictures of that little blue bastard bird counted, or lame cartoons!

But if you count the collection I just saw through my filthy surfing habits, and give me a nickel per set I've accidentally looked at, I'd be quite wealthy! :slap:

Yeah, and you would think they would have made better efforts over the years to fix it. My son is 11 now, and no way in hell I can imagine worrying about him being anywhere near that street. The good news was, I'm kind of an aggressive driver myself. And I had no issues driving around Queens, and over to St. Johns Uni area, as everyone else driving was a little nutty like me!

A site I go to, witch I swear is not a porn site, has this one add there all the time which is like 7 seconds of porn in a video, just looping and replaying, over and over, and then over again. And not that I looked, but it's this woman who has obviously taken care of her lungs over the years, and has taught them tricks to work magical ways with gravity. I wonder why they display such ads, as you don't want the kids to see this kind of stuff. Then I remind myself where I am, and what kind of sick bastard I am, and kids weren't going to be there.
