Some kinda fun facts about Paul Ryan. Seems like he has a lot in common with some of the posters here :)

************************************************** *************************************

The following is a brief biography of Rep. Paul Ryan, selected to be Mitt Romney's running mate.

Political

* Currently serving seventh term as a member of Congress.
* Ryan was little known outside Janesville when he ran for
Congress in 1998 at age 28. He captured 57 percent of the vote.
* Ryan's first budget plan, which he called "Roadmap for
America's Future," was released in 2010.
* Early in his career as a representative to Congress, Ryan
held office hours in an old truck he converted into an office.
* Ryan was the legislative director for Sen. Sam Brownback
of Kansas, 1995-1997.

Here's the weird thing, I really wished back when that he'd run for president. Yeah, he's young and chose not to. Thinking on this today, probably a smart choice. I never thought Romney would pick him. Too wonkish, as Romney is himself, though he certainly has more personality than Romney. As I said though, after the surprise to me last night with the media basically calling it, I think much more highly of Romney. It was brave and changes where the election was going.

Thanks to bringing Ryan in, Romney has opened the door to real discussion of the economy, the most serious challenge facing our country, unless terrorism raises itself between now and November. Even then, with the opposition, won't be a serious problem.

Nope, I cannot think of a possible contest, other than Kennedy v Goldwater, which didn't happen, where the policies would be so diametrically opposed. There will be a choice for the people. Four more years of what's gone before, doubling down on QE and further government entitlements. Or a tsunami switch to reigning in entitlements, establishing a budget, and making hard choices.

L. Acorn earlier asked about cutting department budgets, not just cutting the increase percentages. I think we'll see some of that, but doubt it will be across the board. I'd look for consolidation and streamlining in government and more programs turned back to the states. I may be dreaming, but now I think we'll be hearing more. Romney and Ryan are going to have to reassure seniors of what the plans are. I'm not too worried though, Ryan actually polls favorably with seniors. They aren't stupid, especially those that can afford alternatives.

Probably the main reason Paul Ryan was picked. He is stong in an area Obama has failed miserably and he can keep focus on it.

I kind of like it that Paul Ryan has a background in working the bottom up. Seems like he has experience in a lot of different fields. Look at all the different industires he has worked in. Fitness ,food, sales, marketing. To me he seems more relateable and down to earth than a lot of politicians...which was one of the main things I really liked about Sarah Palin the last time around.

Another plus... he is outdoor(sie),and not such a stuffed shirt....brings a good balance to Romney I think.

I think this is an outstanding choice by Romney. He chose someone who has been championed by conservatives and will appeal to the far right. It will allow Romney to continue to appeal to both centric uncommitted voters and traditional conservative Republicans.

Plus Ryan appeared to have been extensively vetted by Romney's people. Which is something that hurt McCain with his poor choice of VP.

the more I see this guy on tv broadcasts from the last 2 years, the more I like this guy and I feel better about the potential of winning the election AND actually making a true change to the way government works.

I love this video from two years ago:

Kathianne. Agreed. Ryan would have been my choice...IF he had been running for the top spot. But. Pragmatically thinking. Ryan also knew, and understood; despite his 17 years in Congress. That he would have been a much Less experienced candidate than Obama was in 2007. And we all know. It would have been a battle to keep the Dem hypocrisy from winning.

I'm assuming you jest.

I think he chose not to run for several reasons, brought up regarding the VP choice. His age. His not holding even a statewide elected office and no executive abilities. He's got the years in service, he's got the issues, and now he'll garner 8 years in age and executive ability.

noodler

1. One who "noodles".
Noodling is defined as:
A. Being unable to maintain an erection while with a female and having consumed less then 7 beers.
B. Bitching out on things.

2. Pedantic know-all who never stops talking and takes every opportunity to insert themselves into any conversation regardless of social decorum at the hope of being perceived as a pundit with boundless knowledge.

3. Someone who has taken lots of mushrooms and feels/looks like a noodle.

Gabby, you might want to ask for a refund on your college education. Your research skills suck.

THIS is catfish noodling.

http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/outdoor-activities/water-sports/noodling1.htm

Most noodling takes place in shallow water (http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/earth/geophysics/h2o.htm). If the water is over your head, it can be difficult or even impossible to wrestle a fish to the surface. Noodlers search for likely catfish (http://animals.howstuffworks.com/fish/catfish-info.htm) hideouts -- inside submerged logs, fallen trees (http://home.howstuffworks.com/trees.htm), under rocks or in mud banks. Catfish make their nests where they feel safe. During spawning season, which occurs in spring and summer when the water temperature rises to about 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius), you're likely to find catfish in their nests because they seldom abandon their eggs (http://animals.howstuffworks.com/animal-facts/egg-info.htm).

Once you locate a promising spot, you'll want to barricade any possible escape routes, using rocks, sandbags or your noodling buddies. Next, test the hole by poking it with a stick. Experienced noodlers can feel the difference between a catfish, a snake (http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/life/zoology/reptiles-amphibians/snake.htm) or a turtle (http://animals.howstuffworks.com/reptiles/turtle-info.htm). If your stick says it's a catfish, go ahead and jam your hand in the hole. Sometimes you can do this without putting your head underwater. But sometimes you'll have to take a deep breath and submerge yourself. You'll need your noodling buddies to act as spotters, in case trouble strikes.
If you're lucky, a catfish will swim out and, in an attempt to defend its nest or escape, will bite you. Some catfish may just nip at your fingers, but others will clamp onto your entire hand. Although catfish don't have super-sharp teeth, those teeth are plentiful. They curve inward, and noodlers say they feel like coarse sandpaper. The sandpaper feeling alone might not be so bad. But after a catfish clamps down on something, it tends to spin, which can rub your skin raw....

Gabby. Pretty impressive. You being so willing to disclose your own proclivities and personal traits above.
Not unusual coming from you. Bet your daily life is nothing more than as miserable as you'd like others to feel....WHEN WE ARE NOT LAUGHING AT YOU.

Just an add on...

Paul Ryan, Master Bowhunter

Paul Ryan might've been an early long shot to get the Republican vice presidential nod, but according to an old friend -- who just happens to be the president and CEO of the country's largest archers' organization -- Ryan has always been a sure shot with his hunting bow.Ryan is a proper hunter, an "aficionado" who's "always consumed with trying this and trying that," Archery Trade Association chief Jay McAninch tells ABC News.

The Washington-based group has "given him a refuge at some of the more, you could say, high-falutin' events to step aside and talk about gadgets and new equipment," McAninch said. "When Paul came down to Congress in 1999 he was very active as a Wisconsinite in bowhunting, so he joined the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus." McAninch was head of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation at the time, "so we got to know each other that way."

Ryan also made friends with his fellow bowhunters when a bill he pushed for years, one of the two he's passed during his dozen years in Congress, lowered the tax burden on domestic arrow producers.
In his blog, McAncich praised Ryan's effort, saying they "level the playing field for arrow manufacturers, especially those making arrows on American soil."

For the Ryans, bowhunting is a family affair. The congressman's wife, Janna, is from a small town in Oklahoma and has been known to join her husband on the "tree stand" (or "perch" hunters use to give themselves a better view and clearer a shot through what's usually dense surrounding greenery.)

...do more mushrooms? The country's f'd; magic mushrooms will help us to not give shit! Anything, really, to avoid economic discussion.
Example: high taxes reduce investment and job creation...
response: Romney outsourced.
Uh huh, maybe he did...because high taxes made it advantageous.
But, but...the wealth gap...1%ers.... It's unfair!!!!

Shall we discuss the AMT and it's effect on middle class investment and resultant barrier to wealth accumulation?

Reesponses??? Do more mushrooms!

Not Sure what you're confused about-- fwiw, I'm probably around the 25%. That clear things up?
My point being, most people, (though 99% is too great IMHO), don't actually want to discuss the actual economic solutions, preferring instead ready-made rhetoric and grandiose ideals. Ignoring the actual individual considerations that need to be discussed or congress will just blow more smoke.

Because LR deftly analogized mushrooms with the opiatic misinformation that is provided to those who don't/won't understand the actual causes and eschew true analysis in favor of the canned responses that will keep them uninformed, uneducated, and unemployed as the growth of the State grows unabated, progressively managing the decline of our global competitiveness.
