The people who work at Amnesty International must be so steeped in Bush Derangement Syndrome that they don’t even realize how bizarre this “poll” is, on a page of their annual report: Axis of Evil?!

After you “vote,” you see this:

All joking aside, the U.S. government, once perceived as a beacon of hope and justice, no longer leads the world on human rights.

The continuing allegations of U.S. torture, use of secret prisons, ghost detainees, and indefinite and unconstitutional detention at Guantanamo calls into question the U.S. commitment to fight torture and adhere to international law. The U.S. now lacks the credibility needed to improve human rights abroad.

By violating some international laws, the United States undermines all international law and promotes the idea to other countries that some laws are acceptable to ignore in the pursuit of “security.”

Check out Amnesty’s annual report to learn more about rights abuses in 2006 and find out what you can do to improve human rights in 2007 in the United States and elsewhere.

To find this poll from the Amnesty USA front page, click the tab labeled ‘ANNUAL REPORT 2007’. The link is in this text:

Check out this blog ad that Amnesty developed for the launch of the Annual Report. Vote on who you think is the worst human rights violator!

UPDATE at 5/23/07 4:41:42 pm:

Amnesty International has finally gone completely off the rails; their secretary-general also said ’Howard is just like Mugabe’.

George Bush, John Howard, Robert Mugabe, and Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir. All on the same moral plane according to Irene Khan.

Prime Minister John Howard finds himself alongside Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe in an Amnesty International report which says they are among short-sighted fear-mongers dividing the world.

The human rights pressure group has accused Mr Howard of portraying asylum-seekers as a threat to national security.

The report also criticises Australia’s role in the war on terror and its treatment of female victims of violence.

Amnesty secretary-general Irene Khan says the fear generated by leaders such as Mr Howard “thrives on myopic and cowardly leadership.”

Ms Khan included Mr Howard with Mr Mugabe, US President George Bush and Sudan’s President Omar Al-Bashir in the same scathing paragraph in her foreword to the group’s annual report published today.

UPDATE at 5/24/07 8:19:29 am:

They have now removed the “Dick Cheney is evil” poll and replaced it with this message:

Thanks to everyone who took our poll!

We’ve gotten a terrific response. Thanks to everyone who shared it with their friends. Take action to restore the America you believe in...

Amnesty International long ago joined the ranks of the United Nations and the Nobel Prize committee in America hating. Al-Qaida tortue manuals portray dismemberment, eye gouging, burning, whipping, bone-breaking, etc., while Amnesty International condemns the U.S. for playing loud rap music at the poor terrorists getting three squares a day and tropical sunshine.
