Turns out he's pretty conservative and is a big troop supporter. He's still a celebrity, not an expert, but he at least lives up to what he preaches and visits VA hospitals without announcing his trip to the world. He seems like an OK guy.
On a side note, the comments at Fark, where I found the story, are so hateful, it's sad. One guy even called the idea that Vietnam vets got spat upon an 'urban myth.'
