View Full Version : MSNBC screams that Paul Ryan lied about Wisc. GM plant... when in fact he didn't!

In his speech to the Republican National Convention on Aug. 29, 2012, Paul Ryan described a GM plant in his hometown of Janesville, WI, and said that Barack Obama had given a speech there in 2008, saying that if government supported it, the plant would be there for another 100 years. And that after Obama took office, the plant had then closed.

The usual leftist fanatics have been screaming ever since, that Ryan lied about it.

So, what's the truth?

It's quite simple: Paul Ryan told the exact truth.

http://www.cfr.org/us-election-2008/obamas-speech-janesville-wisconsin/p15492

Obama's speech was given at the Janesville plant on Feb. 13, 2008. It was open during that period. In his speech, Obama said, "I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years."

Obama took office on Jan. 20, 2009. And the Janesville GM plant remained open until April 23, 2009... on which day it closed.

The Obots on MSNBC have been screaming that Paul Ryan lied about this plant in some unspecified way.

But it is now clear that the liars are Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton of MSNBC.

As usual.

The Democrats are so bankrupt, so bereft of ideas and substance, that they must now accuse Republicans of lying when they clearly didn't. When it's easy to demonstrate the truth of what the Republicans said.

Can the Democrat party sink any lower?

Can the Democrat party sink any lower?

In a word: Yes.

You sound surprised.

I believe Obama has the slightly upper hand, but with tactics that communicate desperation he is on his way of throwing his advantages away.

MSNBC, Matthews, Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and every Liberal has been conditioned, brainwashed, convinced to always believe their own Lies. That explains why the UN-EDUCATED, under-intelligent liberals so easily pounce on ANYTHING someone says that disrupts their lies. Otherwise called Liberal facts.
Liberals, Obama, and Democrats Are Immune, and Unaware of the words Honesty, Truth, and Actual Facts.

...The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/mr-ryans-speech-effective-maybe-but-definitely-misleading/2012/08/30/a9b4e690-f227-11e1-adc6-87dfa8eff430_story.html), and a host of other liberal media outlets, are calling this passage “misleading” because the Janesville plant “closed before the president was inaugurated.” The Post is dead wrong. Here are the facts:

1. On February 13, 2008 Obama said (http://www.gazetteextra.com/obama0213.pdf) in Janesville : “I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years.”

2. In June 2008 GM announced (http://archives.media.gm.com/archive/documents/domain_3/docId_46161_pr.html) that the Janesville plant would stop production of medium-duty trucks by the end of 2009, and stop production of large SUVs in 2010 or sooner.

3. In October 2008 Obama doubled down (http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/news/story.aspx?id=205482#.UD9p-nBpxvn) on his promise to keep Janesville plant open: “As president, I will lead an effort to retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and all across America.”

4. In December 2008 GM idled production (http://gazettextra.com/photos/galleries/last-day-gm/) of GM SUVs at the Janesville plant. Medium-duty truck assembly continued.

5. In April 2009, four months after Obama was inaugurated, GM idled production of medium-duty trucks (http://gazettextra.com/news/2009/apr/21/thursday-last-day-production-isuzu-line-comes-end/).

6. In September 2011, more than two years after Obama was inaugurated, GM reiterates (http://m.jsonline.com/business/130171578.html) that Janesville plant is on “stand by status.” Auto industry observer David Cole, tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (http://m.jsonline.com/business/130171578.html) it would be premature to say the Janesville plant will never reopen.

6. Today the GM facility in Janesville still has not been retooled “so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs,” as Obama promised.

Even though this crap by MSNBC was shown to be untrue very early this morning, if not late last night, it's hilarious watching liberals running around with it today as if Ryan just killed someone. And even with the same link LA posted, and others, many of them are sticking to MSNBC's story, as Lord knows that Sharpton and Matthews are the go to guys when you want the truth!

They remind me of Japanese soldiers that didn't know WWII was over. :

I haven't watched MSNBC for about 3 years or so and just the mention of al sharpton's name raises my blood pressure. So when I hear these speeches and questionable statements, rather than listen to the pundits on TV, I prefer to check them out myself.

What appears to be the time line is that the plant employed over 2,000 when Obama made that campaign speech that Ryan refers to. I actually remember seeing that speech on the news. But GM announced the closing of that plant before Obama was elected and by the time it closed on Obama's watch there were only a maintenance and utility crew of 57 employees.

So I personally find this to be a misleading statement.

So sad that politics for our country has become a win at all cost and the best defence is an offence by almost any means possible by too many that should be leading us instead of misleading us!

Other than that Ryan's speech went well.

Yeah I know CNN, but it wraps up well everything else I found.

Are they really that afraid??

Look at what they have to resort to:

1) Lie about Paul Ryan lying
2) Claim a golf reference to Obama is racist.
3) Made up stuff about Romney "assaulting" a young man.
4) Talking about Romney's dog
5) Avoid talking about Obama's record.

Yeah, they are terrified. They are in pure panic mode.

You are shaving the facts so thin, they are visibly bald.
Obama said "if the government supports it." Which the government of the previous administration obviously did not. The plant announced it would be closing quite a while before April 23, 2009.
You need to admit that Ryan's speech writers fed him a factually incorrect statement. Which Ryan obviously knew nothing about. I don't blame Ryan for any of the factual errors in his speech. I blame the Romney people for feeding him bad information.

So why didn't the Obama administration support it when they purchased GM with tax payer money? Did you completely ignore Kathianne's post with the time line?

Nothing Ryan said was incorrect. The plant was failing. Obama made a promise that if he got in government and his policies were applied, that plant would stand for 100 years. they announced the closing. HE DOUBLED DOWN ON THE PROMISE. He got elected. He bailed out GM. And then the plant closed.

And the point Ryan had was he inherited a bad situation. Made promises and didnt improve squat.

And you seriously think Ryan had to have facts about a plant in his own district where friends of his worked?! You think he had to rely on someone else for this information?

Seriously gabs, what the heck are you thinking here? Ryan didn't lie. The so called fact checkers did.

Gabby. Be sure to vote on November 2nd. That's another MSNBC factoid from the President's Wife. And of course. We all know. Everything any OBAMA says...MUST BE TRUE.
