As mentioned elsewhere in this forum, some people have pointed out that it's states who elect Presidents, not a nationwide popular vote. States like Florida are crucial to winning the election, they say. So the fact that the nationwide popular polls are hugely skewed, doesn't really matter, they say.

Well, the latest state poll taken in Florida shows Obama ahead by 8% in that state. Only problem is, they had to ask 40% more Democrats than Republicans in Florida, to get that "result".

Yep, the same huge skewing is going on in the statewide "polls" that show Obama ahead.

What are the chances that 40% more Dems than Republicans, will actually vote in Florida on Nov. 6?

I didn't think so.

My feel on the street is the polls are VERY MUCH separated from reality. Just sayin

Mine too. I've described where I live multiple times. Pretty upper class, Republican stronghold, Chicago suburb. A bit of red in a sea of blue.

With that said, normally one would see a few signs, more Democrat than Republican, they have something to prove.

Right now? Yard signs all over. Something I've never seen, outside of candidate appearances, 'Clothing with Romney/Ryan' on them. Buttons? Kids are wearing them to school. Have never seen this.

Well, since the subject is polls in Fla. It hought to include this since NASCAR is headquartered there. I was suprised even though I heard his statements live which showed a real lack of tack.. Jeff Gordon ain't voting Romney. And he's very rich!

That was an internet poll, probably the least reliable type of polling.

And Florida isn't the headquarters of NASCAR. There are nine, four are in North Carolina, and none are in Florida. http://nascar.factexpert.com/1230-nascar-headquarters.php

NASCAR heaquarters are in Daytona Florida just as they have been since the late 1950's.

Why do we still care about polls? The only REAL poll will be conducted on Nov. 6.

I don't care if Obama is up 20 points or Romney is up 20 points. There are people conducting polls of dogs, who eat first out of dishes marked "Obama" and "Romney." I think they will be polling treefrogs next.
Like Mark Twain said:

"Figures often beguile me," he wrote, "particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: 'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

You're going to care on November 7. Everything about this year is feeling like 1980 all over again... the economy, the failed foreign policy, the "malaise"....

Romney's not Reagan, though... we only get presidents like RR once in a lifetime... hopefully we'll get presidents like El Incompetente once in a lifetime, too (which is once too often for my taste)

We've had at least 2 El Incompetente's in my lifetime.

I guess you are right and the couple times I've been to the offices while at the races I must have really been somewhere else. And I like internet polls for a good time.

So my earlier website was wrong, just like your web-based poll. Funny how that works.
