The irony in this story.....She committed suicide on National Bullying Prevention day.
A teenage girl is believed to have been found hanged just weeks after posting a heartbreaking video on YouTube detailing her battle with cyber bullies.
Amanda Todd, 15, was found dead at her home in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, on Wednesday in an apparent suicide.

That is such a shame. I watch that and wish I could have reached out and helped her, or taught the little bastards a lesson that were bullying her. I know kids will be kids, things will be said, and there will always be fights, but there was always a limit to the crap when I was growing up. Following her to new cities and harassing her on multiple FB accounts was too much, as was continually sharing her picture. It seems to me like she was reaching out for someone to be her friend, anyone, and it's a damn shame that no one was there to be that person for her.
For just index cards, and a silent film, that was VERY powerful and eye opening. Sometimes kids are simply looking for attention, and sometimes that attention will save their lives.

Very true, Jim. The important thing is to get the kids to come out and talk with you.
Unfortunately, some kids are not abused or threatened by other kids. It is their parents or other relatives.
I had a kid referred to me once that didn't want to come forward. Even though she had friends urging her to. She fell asleep in a class and a friend put a note on her desk that said "I need help. Please call someone." The teacher found it and called us.
When you deal with this one a daily basis, it makes you realize how inconsequential your own problems really are.

Yeah, I know I've had my share of problems in this world, but nothing worthy of taking my own life over. It's scary to see so much of this happening. I just hope films like this don't make others think it's an option, because it shouldn't be. If these kids only knew there were plenty of places they could go to for help, friends, attention. They got locked into a life that feels torturous to them and they only see one way out. I wish I could help kids like this, but I'm not trained, nor do I ever have the opportunity presented to me. But if I had saw this video prior to her suicide, and knew where she lived, I'd have stepped in. All kids are going to make mistakes, even sharing boobs or having sex with the wrong person, but they have plenty of time to straighten their lives out and put aside bullshit that consumes their lives and makes them turn to drugs and cutting.
I genuinely don't understand cyber bullying, at all, i mean, if you are getting constant abuse on the likes of Facebook, or YouTube, to the point where it's making you suicidal. Why use either?
Not saying its the victims fault, or that she brought any of this on herself, but all the same

Unfortunately, even if she resigned from the sites, the other kids would still be sharing her picture and having a jolly good time making fun of her, and bringing it to school, and following her to new schools, and fighting with her.

You are asking why she didn't just leave Facebook and the other social sites and withdraw? I think that's a very interesting question, especially since we know she was into sex pictures of herself and taking drugs and other "downhill spiral" stuff, as someone elsewhere described it. Was attention so necessary to her that she would rather die than not get it? I read someone make the point that it's a question of the strong and the weak and the weak who suicide are just too weak to survive, and that's Darwin for you. That we can't change everything for the benefit of the weakest. Blew my mind; I started reading Nietzsche, who says much the same thing.

It's what they 'know,' especially those that are lonely. It's hard to explain the mind of many middle schoolers or high school students. They somehow think that it's going to be like it is, 'forever.' If there were some magic way to let them know that a year out of high school very little of went before will be of consequence.
It's certainly related to those that don't understand the consequences of drugs, alcohol, texting, and driving. They are 'immortal,' which actually may be part of the suicide thing, somehow they'll 'come out of it' and everyone who was mean will be sorry.
I'll need to read more into the details when I get home, but basically yeah.
I mean its more than easy to a) set your Facebook to 'friends only' and b) block any user you want from even seeing your profile exists (and remove their ability to send messages) with one click.
It's very hard to be bullied online without some sort of consent, I remember a local story not too long ago that involved a girl getting anonymous hate mail on Tumblr. She talked about how it made her feel, how much the messages hurt etc. at no point in the report did it say that your can turn off the 'anonymous messages' feature. Again, I'm not saying the people receiving the hate are to blame, but there are steps that can be taken to help if you are subject to such abuse that all but eliminates it.
I'd also like to see more questions put to the mother - I mean her 15 year old daughter had 'turned to drink and drugs' Did se know? What did she do about it etc.

Looks like the hacker group "anonymous" actually did something I agree with. Personally, if details can be tracked and it's proven what this guy did, I think he should be brought up on charges of stalking, harassment and whatever else they can dream up.
Amanda Todd's Alleged Bully Named By Anonymous After Teen's Tragic Suicide
Hacktivist group Anonymous has reportedly tracked down the man who bullied Amanda Todd, a 15-year-old Canadian girl who committed suicide after suffering torment that led to depression and anxiety.
Anonymous named Todd's alleged bully on Monday in a post on Pastebin.com. The accusers allege that the man who targeted Todd, made her flash him and then turned her life into a living nightmare is a 30-year-old from New Westminster, British Columbia. The post describes him as the man who "extorted amanda todd for pictures. This is the pedophile that social engineered Amanda Todd into supplying him nude pictures."
Anonymous also revealed his address.
Vice magazine posted information that reportedly further links Todd to the alleged bully, including Google Map screenshots of his house, his Facebook profile, chat conversations and screenshots from a "jailbait" website account supposedly tied to the man.
Vice reports that Anonymous got involved in tracking down Todd's bully after nude autopsy photos of deceased Amanda Todd leaked online.
“We generally don’t like to deal with police first hand but were compelled to put our skills to good use protecting kids,” read an email sent by Anonymous to Canada's CTV News. “Ironically we have some good people in Vancouver who brought this to our admin’s attention. It’s a very sad story that affects all of us.”
The man who Anonymous identified as Todd's bully appeared in court on Monday on charges of sexual assault and sexual interference with a minor, unrelated to Todd, CTV reported. The man claims he was Todd's friend and pointed the finger at a New York man who was harassing her.

It's very difficult to assign blame (outside of the bully) without knowing all the details. There are girls who are depressed. Then there are others who merely need attention.
We had a high school age girl who willingly sent nude photos of herself to a boy she was in involved with. When they broke up, she alleged that the boy had abused her and forced her to pose for the photos. He was arrested and charged as a sex offender. He was only saved when the girl's sister stated otherwise.
Another school system had a case where a girl tried to extort a boy her age. She found his cell phone number, sent him nude photos and then threatened to turn him in unless he went out with her.
Some kids genuinely need help. Other need attention from others. Like their own parents.

You should read more about the story because she did stop using her facebook only to have Maxson create a false profile using her boobs as the profile pic. The rest of the bullying was done offline after she changed schools twice. He continued to harass her even after she moved and this lead to the bullying at school due to his posting her pic for all to see at the new school.
This complete jerk is already facing criminal charges against a different young girl. Since he enjoys spreading child pornography his punishment should be forced masturbation using a honey coated hand dipped in broken glass and saturated with gasoline. While sitting on a barbed wire wrapped baseball bat.

The U.S. Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment.
I prefer to have sex offenders serve their sentences among the general population at a large prison unit. Where those who abuse children are viewed as the lowest form of humanity. And receive the resulting treatment.
We see a bully's apologist blaming everyone but the bully!!
perhaps he too is a bully?
lets see if his posts are filled with abusive and insulting bullying material....................

I have been doing a lot of research about this case for an educational project I am working on in regards to social media and cyber-bullying. I went so far as to contact one of the reporters last night who ran the story on Amanda Todd in the Vancouver Sun, to see if she could get me in contact with her mother for additional resources and background info. There is way way way more to this story then what has been posted in the media......
The reporter got back with me this morning with some information that has not been highly publicized.....I started doing some digging and let's just say I found myself in the underbelly of the internet and was very disturb by what kinds of things are being said and done not just in regards to Amanda Todd but also to other young women.
Here is a link to a great piece of investigative journalism......

I do have screen shots of some of the disturbing things I found online this morning, but I have to blur some things, first lots of nudity and foul language.

OK, some of this may sound cruel. I sure hope you don't take it that way.
Go back over her story. First things first. We all know this Canadian girl loved attention. She disrobed and like it or not, took a naked photo of herself and with nobody forcing her, posted it to get some guys jollies off.
But even later, she does even worse things. She has sex because some guy wanted it.
She did not claim she even liked him. He, she says, liked her. This ploy has got more men laid than most anything I can say. Even when I was a teen boy,. other boys told me that girls in the 50s or 60s wanted to hear 3 words and those words unlocked the world of sex.
I LOVE YOU
Say that and you got laid.
I guess from her story we might infer that today all the girl wants to hear is
I LIKE YOU
The new standard is Like and not Love.
Well, she tried to kill herself in various ways. Who was the adult in her life? The girl was in dire need of help. Some adult let her down.
Was it apparent in school to the authority body?
I don't know all the story since all we got was her version.
Still the child hanged herself. When they hang themselves, it's slow dying. I believe some arteries get blocked by the rope she used so she would essentially faint fairly fast. Yet she dangled slowly smothering.
Sadly the girls who most need to read that story may never see it in time.
Sadly the adults who might help a kid live may not see it either.
Where is the Government when you need them?

In my writing this week about the sexual extortion of Amanda Todd by an online blackmailer (http://www.vice.com/read/a-jailbait-loving-perv-destroyed-amanda-todds-life), I connected a man named by the New Jersey sect of Anonymous (which, by the way, suddenly appeared on the internet in the wake of Amanda’s suicide) to a horrifyingly wretched group of mentally ill pedophiles that convince young girls to strip on webcam, and then record it. Then they use this footage to blackmail the girls into providing them—and a large audience of pedophiles who follow the blackmailers’ conquests—with further strip shows, which they continue to record. While the mainstream media has failed to catch up to this story with the level of detail and attention it so desperately deserves, they have been very eager to follow Kody Maxson out of his court appearances for “unrelated... charges of sexual assault and sexual interference with a minor” (http://bc.ctvnews.ca/alleged-amanda-todd-tormenter-tracked-down-1.997244) and discuss the Anonymous leaks that blame Kody and a man who goes by the screen name “Viper” for Amanda’s suicide (http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/1273047--amanda-todd-online-group-anonymous-now-accuses-u-s-man-of-tormenting-amanda-todd).
After further investigation into this emotionally exhausting and highly disturbing world of online blackmailers, I have found that this community not only follows and shares the screen captured images and videos of these girls, but monitors internal rivalries among the blackmailers. This competition has led me to question whether or not Kody is the sole perpetrator in Amanda’s blackmail, and has made me realize the size and depth of this horrible online culture.
