It was capitalism and Scripture which saved the day," as acknowledged by George Washington in his first Thanksgiving Proclamation in 1789 (http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2004/11/24/george_washington_1789), which I also have here.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions -- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually -- to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed -- to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn [sic] kindness onto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord -- To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease [sic] of science among them and us -- and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand at the City of New York

the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

LOl!

Everyone knows the REAL story of Thanksgiving is of men sitting around eating a feast most of them had no part in preparing, then opening their belts and watching 8 hours of football while the cooks clean up.

Kind of like belching after your meal in Greece!

I was very active as a teen. That has to be why i could stuff my face till it puffed up like a balloon and a couple days later look normal.

Mom always baked me my own chocolate pie. She baked plenty of pies but I got one of the chocolate pies to myself.

This was after I ate like I was starving, the full meals.

I once weighed myself before and after thanksgiving meal and if memory serves me, I gained something in the order of 20 pounds.

I would not try that on a dare today.

I remember those holidays prior to TV. I am trying to remember when it might be that I saw pro football on TV.

I do recall going to SF at Kezar stadium for a 49er game where they played the Cleveland Browns. I think that game was won by Cleveland. Back in those days, Cleveland was one hell of a tough team.

Another factoid. I recall the Oakland Raiders playing on a junior college foot ball field and they had few watching the game. I would see them play on Sundays as i drove down the freeway into Oakland, CA.

When I worked in heavy construction, a job we did was the Oakland colesium. And now supposedly it is outdated.

I think the one that is outdated is that one in Rome.

And it's hilarious every single time!

Thanksgiving...celebrate the failure of socialism and the success of free enterprise.

By giving thanks to GOD.

A progressive nightmare...which makes it my favorite holiday, and explains why liberals love to sneer about it.

My oldest grandson, who is now 10. Brags about drinking 3 Cokes, and Belching the Alphabet.

We won't be seeing them tomorrow. But I can happily expect a phone call...with the Belched words...."Happy Thanksgiving POP!"

A Happy Thanksgiving to All tomorrow! And even if you DO NOT BELIEVE. I hope GOD gives you all a Good, Peaceful Day.
