Well this certaily isn't going to help Detroit, but it may explain why they were so willing to elect a felon. They probably couldn't read well enough to figure out why he was charged.

U.S. Department of Education, only 7 percent of the eighth graders are grade-level proficient or better in reading.

only 4 percent scored highly enough to be rated “proficient” or better in math. ...

Over the past decade, Michigan’s public school have shown no improvement at all in teaching children how to read. In 2002 just as in 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Education, only 32 percent of Michigan public-school eighth graders scored proficient or better in reading.[/QUOTE]

I hardly know what to say. The idea that 93% of the kids in Detroit schools can't read at their level and 94% can't to math is horrible.

Look at the difference between STATE and NATIONAL tests. Either the state tests are too easy, or the nationals are too difficult.

Depends on the prespective. For the democrats dependent on the low information voter, illiteracy is the perfect solution.

I noticed that as well and I'd say the state tests are too easy. Otherwise you wouldn't see the HUGE discrepancy in the results.

The really, really SAD, and what should be UPSETTING to everyone, facts about this thread are.

Nobody is thinking about the Children. Not the Govt. the Teachers, or the Unions who control the Dying City of Detroit!

How many here on this forum would be HAPPY to learn THEIR CHILDREN, or GRAND CHILDREN were the targets of such news in Detroit?

We are the Richest, Formerly most respected, Freedom loving, Constitutional nation on Earth...and we have actual statistics like this about OUR CHILDREN?

And everybody wonders why people are so PISSED OFF at the LYING GOVERNMENT, LYING PRESIDENT, and LYING CONGRESS???

IGNORANCE, STUPIDITY, SELFISHNESS, INSTANT GRATIFICATION, AND the "ME" and "MINE" generations...called Illiterate Americans made all of this happen.

Let's see who will step forward to do something about it....unless....it means Losing an Election.

hahaha that's funny considering I am in the middle of reading this book, and just recently pulled both of my boys out of school to unschool them.
