Anonymous wages war on Westboro Baptist Church after hate-mongering group threatens to picket Sandy Hook Elementary School Picketing funerals of fallen U.S. soldiers isn’t enough for the Kansas-based church. Now it plans to protest outside the site of the Connecticut massacre. The 'hacktivist' organization has responded, as have others – a petition on the White House website to declare the church a hate group has already gathered 100,000 signatures.

The Westboro Baptist Church is being attacked on all fronts after announcing it will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were brutally murdered on Friday.

The "hacktivist" organization Anonymous has led the charge, releasing what it claims to be private information of members of the anti-gay, hate-mongering religious group.

"I've never heard of Anonymous, but somehow they got our personal info," Westboro Baptist Church and their leader Fred Phelps tweeted Monday. "That is OUR info, not yours to give out! God will deliver us."

Anonymous has also threatened to "destroy" the group in a new video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHLQTB00j3E) and may also be responsible for taking down its website, according to Forbes.com (http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2012/12/17/anonymous-targets-westboro-baptist-again-over-threat-to-picket-newtown/).

"Your hatred supersedes your faith and you use faith to promote your hatred," a computerized-voice says in the video. "Since your one-dimensional thought protocol will confirm not to any modern logic, we will not debate, argue or attempt to reason with you. Instead we have unanimously deemed your organization to be harmful to the population of the United States of America."

In addition, a petition on the White House website to declare the Westboro Baptist Church a hate group is gaining steam Monday, with more than 100,000 people signing up.

"This group has been recognized as a hate group by organizations, such as The Southern Poverty Law Center, and has repeatedly displayed the actions typical of hate groups," the petition on the White House website (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/legally-recognize-westboro-baptist-church-hate-group/DYf3pH2d) reads. "Their actions have been directed at many groups, including homosexuals, military, Jewish people and even other Christians. They pose a threat to the welfare and treatment of others and will not improve without some form of imposed regulation."

Another petition calls for the WBC to lose its tax-exempt status (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/investigate-irs-tax-exempt-status-westboro-baptist-church/YrKbHYtV).

The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church is infamously known for picketing funerals of soldiers and victims of hate crimes. They threatened to picket the funeral of Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old girl killed in Tucson when Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot last year, but backed off in exchange for radio time.

These people are just pure scum. If I were a parent there in Ct, or another family member, I would point blank tell the police to keep these people away or they die.

I'm curious, I read elsewhere today that they can't be barred from places unless they were labeled a hate group. WTF? Does anyone know if this is true?

I'm pretty sure if they are Americans, whether on not the group is listed as 'hate' or not by SPLC, they have the right to 'peacefully assemble.' Sigh. The downside of freedom.

However, other groups have the same right and may put themselves between the haters and the mourners.

Hello, did anyone ever think these terrible people were anything but a hate group?

Darn.

This is the only good thing Anonymous ever did! At least maybe it will distract them from attacking Netflix and Yahoo for a few days.

I heard the KKK was protesting the WBC also. Makes me even more annoyed by them because they showed me somewhere I actually agree with the KKK and I want to be affiliated with that hate group as little as possible.
