Another example as to why Americans and companies should not have to pay one cent more in taxes until this BS is cleaned up
President Obama (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/obama/) told the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on Friday that immigration reform would be one of his top priorities. His comments coincide with a new report by Health and Human Services, which concludes that illegal immigrants and prison inmates have received more than $120 million in Medicare (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/medicare/) services from 2009-2011, even though they are ineligible for the program.
Nearly 3,000 illegal immigrants made $91.6 million in fraudulent claims for Medicare (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/medicare/) services over the report’s three-year duration.
The Centers for Medicare (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/medicare/) & Medicaid Services and the Office of the Inspector General (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/office-of-the-inspector-general/) indicated that retrieving the money might not be feasible. The report reads: “[CMS] is committed to recovering overpayments … but it must take into account the cost benefit of recoupment activities, including potential appeal costs and the cost of manually reopening these claims.”

Illegals DO vote Tyr. Remember when libs allowed people to register when they obtain a drivers license? They called it "Motor Voter". Then they said illegals should get a drivers license since it was a "safety" issue. Guess what - they register to vote now. and NOBODY bothers to check if they are legal citizens. So, libs now are happy illegals are voting and keeping libs in power in exchange for their handouts

and we have this gem showing why government takes way too much money from taxpayers and companies
The Internal Revenue Service may have delivered more than $5 billion in refund checks to identity thieves who filed fraudulent tax returns for 2011, Treasury Department investigators said Thursday. They estimate another $21 billion could make its way to ID thieves' pockets over the next five years.
The IRS is detecting far fewer fraudulent tax refund claims than actually occur, according to a government audit that warned the widespread problem could undermine public trust in the U.S. tax system. Although the IRS detected about 940,000 fraudulent returns for last year claiming $6.5 billion in refunds, there were potentially another 1.5 million undetected cases of thieves seeking refunds after assuming the identity of a dead person, child or someone else who normally wouldn't file a tax return.
In one example, investigators found a single address in Lansing, Mich., that was used to file 2,137 separate tax returns. The IRS issued more than $3.3 million in refunds to that address. Three addresses in Florida, the epicenter of the identity theft crisis, filed more than 500 returns totaling more than $1 million in refunds for each address.
In another troubling scenario, hundreds of refunds were deposited into the same bank account -- a red flag for investigators searching for ID thieves who may be filing for refunds for multiple people. In one instance, the IRS deposited 590 refunds totaling more than $900,000 into one account.

Hey Bingster!

Remember the posts about the CBO and how they score a bill? One of the ways the Dems said they were going to "pay" for Obamacare was by eliminating Medicare fraud, waste, and abuse...to the tune of $50-55 billion a year IIRC. You can add this $120 million to the growing cost of Obamacare. If they can't even stop what should be the simplest to catch, how much more of that imaginary $55 billion in savings annually is going to get added to the final bill?

pretty sure people have been defrauding government agencies since the first government came into existence. Has little or actually NOTHING to do with Obama.

True

Because in washington the foxes are incharge of the hen house. They don't care about the fraud, not really. They just want to keep distracting the sheep, while they continue to get rich.

Exactly right. Look at the size of the fraud department of a credit card company compared to the size of a fraud department of a government agency and you will see exactly how much the government cares about fraud.

Their entire view is "not our money, so whatever"

Apples and oranges. Credit card companies are in the private sector, in business to make a profit, and answers to their share holders. Government on the other hand simply can (as they are doing now) raise taxes when they need money and answers to no one except their supporters and campaign contributors. Obama has shown he has no desire to cut spending or reduce the waste - only to grow the government and increase spending

It's not apples and oranges. It's apples and apples.

Seriously RSR do you have to argue with every little thing I write?

We're not talking about profit , we're talking about controlling what is essentially theft of services and even non profits are concerned with that.

The government should absolutely model their fraud departments after those in the private sector.

The government as a whole would be MUCH better off if they would take some clues from private industry. Not just in the fraud department.

You brought up the credit card fraud unit not me. I am pointing out facts. Credit card companies must make a profit to stay in business. Government can raise taxes to "stay in business" The government has no incentive to weed out fraud and waste. The point of this thread was to point out no one should pay another penny in taxes while crap like this is going on in the government
