Industry pressure hides gun traces, protects dealers from public scrutiny

Since 1992, more than 2,500 guns recovered by police and tied to crimes in the Washington area have been traced back to their original sale at Realco Guns in Forestville, Md. The total is four times that of the dealer with the next highest number of gun traces.

Under the law, investigators cannot reveal federal firearms tracing information that shows how often a dealer sells guns that end up seized in crimes. The law effectively shields retailers from lawsuits, academic study and public scrutiny. It also keeps the spotlight off the relationship between rogue gun dealers and the black market in firearms.

This is an old article but it plainly demonstrates the obstructionism of the NRA and opportunities to make a difference without endangering Gun owner's rights.

Here's a picture that shows plainly that gun trafficking is preventing gun control from working. Notice the green states are almost all politically blue states:
