A few here think gun bans and further legislation is the way to go. They say it's legal and from all fronts have no issue with Congress making these changes.

Now what if in a few years the Republicans had majorities all over. And they put legislation forth making it impossible to ever infringe on the 2nd? Impossible to ever force registrations? Impossible to ever have any type of confiscations? In other words, they legislated and put protections in place so that none of it could ever be trampled on (Yes, I know, the 2nd should be doing that). But this time it will be much lengthier than the 2nd and much more specific, airtight.

Would you anti-gun nutters be happy with a Republican lead senate and President making this charge and passing such a bill?

Hard to see the point of this. If the paranoid gun-haters are willing to violate the 2nd amendment (whether by ignoring it, or by pretending it says something other than what it says, or etc.), what makes you think they wouldn't do the same thing to this "airtight" legislation?

Another way of saying, nothing is airtight if liberals are around.

Plus, once those Republicans are out of power, the liberals will simply repeal what they passed. Quietly, tacked on to some hurricane-relief bill or something, and the media will never mention it.

Constitutional provisions are the ONLY way our rights can be safeguarded, simply because while you CAN change them, you can't change them easily or quietly. And the liberals will always try to change them.

True, true, just food for thought is all.
