Toys get sex change: Pink Lego blocks marketed for girls boost Lego sales

Toys get sex change has become a trending topic on a few major search engines this week, but it’s not drastic a change as the news headline may appear. Upcoming Yahoo News reported this Thursday, Feb. 28, that gender equality is going to be making its way more to U.S. toy shelves, particularly for pink Legos that are being targeted for girls.

While boys recently made up over 90% of Lego sales, pink blocks —
just introduced this Jan. 2012 — have become a huge hit for Lego
manufacturers everywhere. Called “Lego Friends”, these pink Lego blocks
now account for nearly 25% of all purchases, boosting total Lego sales
by that same amount to over $4.2 billion in 2012.

“Lego Friends” is designed in the same model and has kids play with
the regular skills needed for block-building, but includes less themes
like “Star Wars” and “Kingdoms,” instead offering models of parks, doll
houses, and pet houses.
...

The cause of their success was not the design (former ideas included
fashion dolls, for example), but the pink color. Yet toys get sex change
has still become a popular topic because it was this “sex change” of
sorts that led to the boost in sales, much in the way that “dolls” being
called “action figures” for boys with more traditionally masculine
figures appearing 50 years ago made millions of dollars for companies
like Hasbro.

I think this actually runs counter to the gender confused six-year old issue as firms are specifically targeting girls as example rather than one-size-fits-all.

Sorry, Big Carl is the (oversized) wine glass.

I wondered if, given the theme of the show, it was a sexual reference.

No, my glass is just an average stemless wine glass. But it can always be refiiled.

Girls should play with dolls and play dress up.
Boys should smack each other and break stuff.

It's the way life works. That's what boys and girls naturally started doing thousands of years ago.
Boys are boys, and girls are girls. Why can't morons get this wrapped around their head???

Perverted minds want a totally perverted world. Libs have a perverted mind. FF'ed up people desire a ff'ed up world. When they see decent , moral people it reminds them what scum they truly are!! -Tyr

Riddle me this, is it more common for little girls to want to feel pretty and play dress up, or boys?

And another, is it more common for boys to come to blows over a game, or girls?

Boys and girls are different whether you like it or not. It's not discrimination, it's just fact.

The OP is about marketing Legos to girls...pretty straight forward, no riddles required-- its just fact. Whatever narrative you feel justified in putting forth is just your superiority complex reacting to a challenge.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2012/12/18/hasbro_s_easy_bake_oven_now_for_boys_too.html

While I like that idea, it's a no changer, as with girls over the pat 40 years. Truth is, want boys or girls to cook, parents need to incorporate daily. I did, and the results are showing now they are in later 20's and early 30's.

Take them to the grocery with you, often. Best one at a time. Look at prices and nutrition labels. Price per pound or ounce. Taste counts!

Involve them in setting table and making salads. Let them pour water or whatever beverage. (4 is ideal, 3 year olds can do mostly well, but need a rag handy to clean up.)

Involve them in in adding ingredients, to baking or cooking, emphasizing that baking is more exact in measurements.

A trip to the grocery can involve math, colors, nutrtion, and science. A very homeschool lesson.
