Imagine some poor drunken slob... Yeck!

I can't imagine being so drunk that I would need to be reminded not to chew gum from a urinal...

Tomorrow my youngest is getting married!

Yesterday and today we had torrential rainfalls. Son was going to work, leaving his apartment complex, boom car over door flash flood. He got out, car totaled. Getting out, fell into water, holding iPhone.

My basement is taking in water.

Anyways, son is now with his brother, the best man. I've got Julia Roberts. Just came in from walking her, she went nutso at an Irish Wolfhound, who literally yawned at her yapping. LOL! Jim's posted illustration on Pugs led me to this:

and another, (other than they are noisier and think they are Dobermans, Doxies have quite a bit in common with affectionate cats):

Congrats!!!

Thanks, Jim! Well I can't take those Congrats, I'm not the cause. LOL! There are way too many reminders in this case of my 'wedding from hell.'

I pray all goes good for my son and his soon-to-be wife.

Let's just note that she was an hour late for rehearsal, saw nothing wrong with making everyone wait, including the priest. Her mom said, "Well we ALL know that brides are unaware of time!" No one laughed.

I'm sad because I really liked this girl at first and am praying that all works out. She's young, 22. My son is 26.

In any case, I'll look great tomorrow! No long dress, hair, mani and pedi done.

I picked song for Mother-Son dance, "I Hope You Dance!"

Congrats Kat...

Now, about dogs...

Have I mentioned I have a new one? I think I did... Mom, gave me one of her Papillons. I prefer to call him by his other name, a Continental Toy Spaniel, sounds more masculine... Anyway, the little guy turns out to be just what the doctor ordered, after the loss of our old boy last summer, little Jake has turned out to be the bees knees...

So the other day I come across a list of the top ten smartest dog breeds. Lo and behold, I see that Pappillons have made this particular list. To say I was surprised would be something of an understatement. Not that Jake is a stupid dog, I just hadn't given the idea any thought. So, when I get home from work I Google "Top Ten Smartest Dog Breeds." After perusing about nine different lists I find that Papillons are on every list.

Now, armed with this new information, I am left wondering, why can't I get the little bastard to quit crapping in the living room?

I can't rep you, but this made me laugh! Thank you, if ever there was an end of day I needed a laugh, this was it.

I love our Doxie, but I do prefer her at son's apartment. Whenever she's mad, which can happen frequently depending whether or not she's bitter about her diet, she'll pee on the carpet or a bed, whatever's handy or available.

She is supposed to be 11 lbs. Right now, thankfully she's 10. I think my carpet may survive. Yes, gave her a beggin' strip after end of night walk. She smiled.

The Tribune gives some idea of areas hit:

Chicago floods: Evacuations, sandbagging as river levels rise Chicago Tribune staff
1:12 PM CDT, April 18, 2013

...

After wreaking havoc on the morning commute, closing schools and prompting scattered evacuations, the massive storm that dumped upwards of a half-foot of rain on parts of the Chicago area overnight is expected to continue throughout the day, with flooding the big concern.

High waters already led to intermittent closures of most major expressways, but now officials throughout the city and suburbs are eyeing rapidly rising river levels along with drainage problems that are stranding motorists and blocking thoroughfares.

Gov. Pat Quinn has activated the State Incident Response Center in Springfield to speed up assistance to public safety officials in areas affected by the storm.

"I urge everyone to stay alert and avoid flooded areas," the governor said in a statement. "Residents should tune in to local TV and radio stations for updated information about any closed routes or evacuations."

...

In Elmhurst, Maureen McNicholas grabbed her two daughters and a couple of their friends to survey the water level in the Palmer Drive underpass, which the city floods to alleviate water overflow in other areas. The gray-brown water was about 20 feet deep.

"I've lived in Elmhurst my entire life and I've never seen it this high," said McNicholas, 51, who told her kids about the underpass being built when she was in high school.

Her house remained dry.

"I feel really bad for all those people whose homes have flooded," she said.

Naperville was providing sand and bags for residents in flooded areas. Taylor Erdman, 32, of Chicago, filled sand bags this morning for a tenant in the Spring Hill subdivision in Naperville who has a flooded basement.

“I’m just trying to stop the bleeding,” he said.

...

Lombard Acting Village President Bill Ware declared the town a disaster area and advised residents not to travel because of the number of cars stalled in flooded streets.

Stretches of Roosevelt Road were flooded. Cars were stranded on exit ramps from York Road to Roosevelt Road and on Finley, Highland and Meyers roads.

Acting Elmhurst Mayor Scott Levin has also declared a state of emergency in the city. He cited flooding, severe sewage back-ups in homes, overwhelmed resources and emergency personnel staffing.

There were also more than 100 school closures throughout the Chicago area.

Commuters coming in from the suburbs felt the frustration of a longer morning commute due to various highway closures and delays due to the rain.

...

Elmhurst and Naperville and Lombard are close to me and the son that got hit with the flash flood. We often have those 'warnings' but this is the only time in my nearly 60 years that I or someone close to me got 'caught.' Have been through floods before, but with warning regarding rain and rising waters. In this case, semi-dry one moment, over 5' of water the next...

I guess it's like tornadoes, one doesn't appreciate them until faced with them.

My son said he was afraid of not being able to get out of the car, he was suddenly engulfed in a wall of water coming, which he could see. Sort of a mini-tsunami?

Glad I could help, doll.

Hope you and yours all get dried out and stay safe.

I recently realized that, with my move late last year, I am now in hurricane country for the first time in over 35 years. This could get interesting...

Home from wedding, so it's two down, 1 to go. That happens in 6 weeks! All 3 will be married!

Sounds like a weird beginning to an animal story, no pics, but it IS pretty funny.

My friend and I took all 3 kids plus older son's fiance to breakfast this morning, for 'wedding eats.' The groom sat next to me and we're talking about the car and what he's looking for when they get back from 'the starter honeymoon.'

I told him I saw he'd posted, "RIP Colbalt, you served me well," on facebook. I laughed, he said, "Oh Mom! I forgot to tell you what happened after the car died!" He got out of the car, into very cold water, then fell breaking his iphone. He basically swam out of the mini-lake. He was NOT a happy camper.

So he walked back to his apartment, told he fiance to change, they needed to find a way to get her car out of the parking lot the water was rising. He changed and they threw on slickers, boots, and grabbed Julia Roberts for the walk.

His apartment building is set way back from main street, with only one drive open to that street. His apartment faces a forest preserve and just to the south and on the main street, is a Home Depot, which was flooded. There's a creek in the forest preserve, which of course was rising to connect with Home Depot flooded lot.

Anyways, they're traipsing around the complex, looking for some solid ground to cross grass and get car to dry area. Suddenly D notices a place, calls to fiance to 'look' when his notices Julia Roberts is paddling like mad, with just nose above the water. He forgot she was there and the water was over her height! LOL! Luckily she was just cold and soaked, and more than a bit pissed! He had M move her car and brought the dog in to get her dry. He said it was too funny and scary and the wet dog was shivering so bad, he used the hair dryer more for warmth than to dry, her fur is short. He felt so guilty that it happened, but he was a tad distracted with one car down, another threatened, and getting married in 24 hours. The fact that Julia wasn't tugging at his arm to chase something, he failed to note that something was amiss.

Doxies really, really are NOT built for swimming for more than a few minutes. Short legs and large middle really isn't conducive. I found a pic! LOL! Not Julia, but looks like an older and heavier version:

Perhaps your new dog has surmised that you don't crap outside either.
