My facebook status changed today.. It is really tough today..

Why are the things in life that are inevitable the hardest to deal with?? We had to say goodbye to the best friend/companion/dog in the entire world. Rivers had a very tough week and is in a better peaceful place now. I just ask that everyone think about us today. Thank you to everyone that has known and loved Rivers and had the privileged of spending time with this GREAT friend....

For 15 years this crazy GREAT dog has been a part of our family.. It is so hard to say goodbye....4908

My condolences to the family. Losing a pet is more difficult than most things in life. I still miss Taffy, we were both 18 years old when she died.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Losing a dog that you love ever so dearly is just like losing any other family member . I have went through that 3 times in my life(my dog dying) twice as a kid and once as an adult. It was not any easier to face as an adult than it was as a kid..

Sorry to hear of your great loss.-Tyr

You have my sympathies, Nuke, Trigg and family. It's difficult to lose someone who never argued with us and always loved us, unconditionally. While they say a dog is mans best friend, I've learned over the years that they are a families best friend, in fact, they are family.

Goodbye

With heavy hearts; and a tear in our eyes
after all these years; we must say goodbye
Please understand; we've done all we could
if there was anything we could do; you know we would

I'm sitting right here; gently rub your ears
while I talk to you softly; trying to hold back the tears
The memories you gave us; we'll never forget
especially the ones; of the day we all met

One last hug; and one last kiss
you have no idea; how much you'll be missed
To look into your eyes; this one last time
you tell me it's ok; you know it's your time

Close your eyes now; and go to sleep
we'll pray to the Lord; you're soul he'll keep
Go in peace now; our good friend
we'll stay right here with you; until the end

Dream of that special day and time
when we'll meet at the Bridge; and all will be fine
We'll run and play; side by side
with a soft warm feeling; deep down inside

Your memory will live on; in each one of us
you'll always be number 1; to all of us
Have a safe journey; through the night
I promise when you awake; you'll be in God's light

So with heavy hearts; and tears in our eyes
just for now my friend; we say goodbye

To my best friend

The day they laid you down to sleep
I prayed to the Lord; your soul he'll keep
Until the appointed day and time
when together we'll meet; and all will be fine

With all God's; creatures great and small
go run and play now, have a ball
No more aches; and no more pain
just bright sunshine; no more rain

Rest in peace; for now best friend
cradled in God's arms; to the end
Dream of that special; day and time
when we'll meet at the Bridge; one last time

Although we'll be separated; for a long time
we'll be together then; and all will be fine
We'll cross Rainbow Bridge; side by side
with a soft warm feeling; deep down inside

Once again then; all will be fine
we're together forever; till the end of time

The above 2 poems are from - http://www.petloss.com/poems/poems.htm

I was going to post more, but they are too sad, if not comforting. Nuke and Trigg can go there if they want to read some more great poems.

I lied, I can't help it, this one is awesome

The time has come I think you know
the Lord is calling so I must go
I love you so much; I wish it wasn't so
I wish I could stay; I don't want to go

You're the best family a dog ever had
so kind and gentle never mean or mad
I'll never forget the day that we met
I was so lucky to become your pet

You opened your door and showed me your heart
I'll never forget you; we'll never part
You loved me and cared for me over the years
you taught me everything and took away my fears

The Lord is calling now I must go
but before I go I want you to know
I know it hurts to lose a friend
but I'll always be with you even to the end

This is how I will feel when the dreadful day comes, and I hope a poem like this can help, and maybe help you guys.

You're filled with anger and disbelief
you ask why take your pet; she never hurt a leaf
Nothing makes sense; as you sit down and cry
but only the good Lord; can really say why

Into all our lives; a little rain must fall
and we must be strong; to answer that call
It usually happens; when are guard is down
then your feelings go on; a merry-go-round

You must hold on tight now; with all your might
because it's always darkest; before the light
Stop and take a look; down deep in your heart
it's there you'll find the strength; to make a new start

Your little one is now home; in Heaven above
cradled in God's arms; covered with his love
This isn't the end; you'll see her one day
and on that special day; you'll be together to stay

For those who have brought a furson into their lives.
And especially for those who have loved and lost a furson.

He was abandoned by the water and picked up by a wonderful person who nursed him back to health. We got him when he was around 6 months old. A furry little beast with HUGE feet.

But Trigg, how do you come by the name Trigg?

Nuke, when I first read that strip I too found that there was a lot of "sawdust" in the air. The truth in that strip is deep and touching. Last summer my wife and I had the burden of sending our "son" of fifteen years off. I wept more that day than when my dad died. Of course I had spent every day of those fifteen years with that mutt... I guess what I'm trying to say is, I know what you're feeling. I am pleased the comic gave you a laugh. That was my intent, that and perhaps a little comfort.

And we all have probably known the sadness, and the anger of losing...literally....Man's/Woman's best friends.

They really are...Part of the family.

Nuke Trigg I am sorry for your loss
A pet is much more than a animal living with you , I lost my Bulldog a few months ago and it hurts sure enough but I thanks God for the time I had with him and cherish the great memories we made together

Nuke, & Trigg: I understand how you feel. Our pets are totally part of our family.

Robert: A pet peeve of mine (no pun intended) is when people say that we need to care only about people. I contend we can love both. Of course we love our daughter, and would do anything for her. That doesn't mean we can't love and treasure our pets.

Also, it's not nice to nuke & trigg to downplay their right to their sadness.
