Grammy award-winning hip-hop artist Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in federal jail on Monday for not paying taxes on three-years of earnings, and she offered a surprising explanation for her misdeeds.

In court, Hill told the judge, “I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them. I had an economic system imposed on me.” She said she planned to pay her taxes in due time, but was told citizens do not get to decide when to write a check to the IRS.

She also argued that (http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/06/showbiz/lauryn-hill-prison/index.html), given how much money her music made for others, she lives quite modestly. “Someone did the math, and it came to around $600 million,” she said. “And I sit here before you trying to figure out how to pay a tax debt? If that’s not like enough to slavery, I don’t know.”

Hey lady, welcome to the Taxpayers Club, although most of us don't pull in $1.8 million.

Did someone forget to tell her that "she didn't do that alone."

She should be thanking God for that $600 million. She's put out just the one album... 15 freaking years ago.

However, I understand from 'reliable sources' that she has a new album in the works.

It's tentitively called 'The Miscalculations of Lauryn Hill'.

I think she got off much too easy. I believe she could have gotten up to 3 years in prison. She only took any action at all when she knew she was going to jail.

Anyone happen to notice the SILENCE of Jesse Jackson, and Al (notso)Sharpton???

The moment she mentioned the word SLAVERY....should have set off FIREWORKS across all of the CABLE news networks, bringing the Obama Troops 4948to attention in her behalf.
