I know it's a picture thread, but all the dog pics make me think of what I've been reading. I sent my son and sister-in-law a link via facebook of the results of a U of Pennsylvania study on most aggressive dog breeds. I know I also posted in the lounge I think, that I'll be dog sitting for most of the remainder of this month. One for a friend, she owns a Great Dane, Daphne. Also her daughter's two dogs, one a Pit Bull, the other a retriever. That is the easier deal, two weeks. Then there will be the 3 days with my sister-in-laws three chihuahuas. One is an angel. One is ok, though he can nip. The other is loco.

While I do love Julia Roberts, she is an aggressive dog. I've said time and again, that if the son has kids, he needs to give her to a good home. She's highly aggressive with small children and other animals. Making the point of U of P. Notice the close scores between #1 and #2. Then the distance between #2 and #3:

Top 10 Most Aggressive Dog Breeds
Numbers Don't LieA study was done by the University of Pennsylvania on aggression in dog breeds. They wanted to find out what breeds would top the list. They recorded attacks/bites towards strangers, owners, and other dogs. This study was preformed in 2008, the findings may just surprise you. The totals were averaged in each breed and listed according to the overall percentage of aggression.


1) DachshundsWith a whopping 21% aggression towards strangers and 18% aggression towards other dogs puts dachshunds in first place as the most aggressive breed of dog.



2) ChihuahuasComing in close behind is the Chihuahua with 16% aggression towards strangers and 18% towards other dogs.



3) BeagleIn Beagles they saw 8% aggression towards all people (including their own owners) and 10% towards other dogs.


4) Jack Russel TerriersJack Russel Terriers have numbers close the Beagle with 8% towards strangers but half that towards their owners. Jack Russel Terriers are more loyal to the people who care for them, but their aggression towards other dogs at 22%.


5) Australian Cattle DogsThis breed is right where it should be for its intended purpose of guarding and watching over herds. Their stranger aggression is at 10%, owner aggression is only at 1% and towards other dogs is up at 21%.


6) Cocker SpanielCocker Spaniels start the second half of the list with 5% aggression towards strangers and 7% towards other dogs.


7) Border CollieBorder Collies made the list in 7th place with 8% aggression towards strangers and 13% shown towards other dogs.


8) Pit Bull TerriersThe breed everyone has been waiting to see on this list only comes in at 8th place for aggression. With 7% aggression towards strangers and 22% aggression towards other dogs, aggression towards owners was only at 2%.


9) Great DaneGreat Danes only showed 6% aggressive behavior towards strangers but a surprising 25% towards other dogs.


10) English Springer SpanielBringing up the end is the English Springer Spaniel with only 4% aggression towards strangers but 18% with other dogs.






Now there must be something weird in my family. LOL! While we currently own 1 Dachshund and 3 Chihuahuas collectively we've owned also a Cocker Spaniel, (my beloved, Taffy), and #10, an English Springer Spaniel that literally ate most of my 1/2 bath in first house. Yes, Skipper did NOT play nice with other dogs either, when not eating flooring or dry wall.
