I miss my ex-father in law's cooking sometimes. He was a retired physician, but should have had a cooking show or restaurant. He was an amazing cook (passed away a number of years ago).

This recipe reminds me of his pork skewers, and is really pretty good.

Just be sure to cut the pork loin about 1/4" thick, no more. If it's too thick, it takes too long to cook and dries out.

They real key, though is this...

It's a catsup (ketchup) made from banana, not tomato. Tastes like tomato ketchup, just a little spicier.

Enjoy!

My 87 year old, Fillipono, ex-mother-in-law approved of the pork skewers I gave her from this recipe.

Do you have any idea how difficult it actually is to please an 87 year old, Fillipino, ex mother-in-law???

Marcus I think the wife and I are going to try this this weekend but we are having trouble trying to find the catsup ( ketchup ) it calls for can you use anything else that might taste close to the same ?

not really, no. It's essentially a slightly spicy ketchup, made from bananas instead of tomatoes. Any Asian grocery store should have it. If you just can't find it, I'd be happy to send you a bottle.

Sounds yummy.

I get to eat the Thai version, Satay quite frequently. Satay is made with either pork or chicken and is served with a coconut and peanut sauce and a sweet and sour cucumber salad.

Lets just say they are hard to please. Its my Filipino father-in-law that's the truly great cook while his wife is just a good cook. He often cooks for others as a way to make money and he is in high demand because of his great skill.-Tyr

Jeff. If there are any military bases near you. They should have Commissaries on the base, and they normally have such items for the military members, and their Filipino family members.
If you know anyone in the military near there. Ask them to get a bottle if they can. Just a suggestion.

What time is dinner?

I like to cook outside as it cools off so sometime after 7 and the rest is well when I get hungry enough to go cook:laugh: seriosly about 8 is when we eat everu night it is to dang hot to be cooking before that and by 7or so the part of GA I live in is well into the mid to lower 70's so it is perfect time to cook

On another note looking at the bottle of funky ketchup I boughtlast night temptation got the best of me and I opened it and tasted just a bit, man it does taste like a spicy ketchup with a couple other spices added in, this is going to be a great dinner no doubt in my mind

Marcus, I'll have to get my good friend and hunting partner, David Diamante' there in Manila, Philippines to bring me some home when he's back on furlough. I'm sure he'll have the REAL DEAL and would love to help me try some on some fresh deer. He's not much of a hunter but loves being out in the woods. He's a world champion chess player but devoted his life to Christ and does he ever love the American way. His type never forgets what AMERICA stands for or what our fathers, grandfathers and great grand fathers did for his fathers, grandfathers and great grand fathers.

I love their way of life and my grandfather who fought in the Philippines and Japanese Islands had HIGH regard for these resourceful people. Who'd a ever thunk to make such a sauce?! WOW! I remember him saying that they never threw anything away and had the best food....perhaps he has had this Banana sauce/pork dish to celebrate their combined efforts in kicking Italy, Germany and Japan's @$$!!!!! The photo of those skewers certainly looked KICK@$$!!!

Thanks for sharing.

Marcus I keep forgetting to tell ya I made this Tuesday Night and it get a great big thumbs up , it was fantastic and will be on the menu at my house quite often now , I did mess up and I couldn't find the red peppers ya find in say Garlic chicken ( that has maybe 2 of them in it) but yet it has just the right amount of spice, I have seen them at the store usually in a bag and dried but two stores on Tuesday and neither had them and I was on the bike and it was threatening to rain so I bought chilli peppers and they where suppose to be hot, well when I was cutting everything up I cut one and put it to my lip and nothing then ate a piece and nothing ( I have bought these to say spice up a pot of gravy when making muscles and have had one make it much to hot ) but these where not hot at all , but even with that this pork was Delicious and if I had the right peppers it would of just been that much better, it tasted great but ya could tell a little tang was needed , but thank you again for this recipe it was well worth all the hunting for banana catsup
